Covid is OVER. Time to get back to work! You are the closest consulate to me-10 hours drive. I need to know how to apply for dual citizenship but your website is EXTREMELY confusing and no one is answering the phones!! Also your hours e ridiculo! Only open 3 horas?!! Que locura!

The Brazilian consulate. Lazy and unprofessional. They hide behind a out dated website. The website says walk-in but the website is not user friendly. An you need to make appointment.
The Las angles office does not work with the San Francisco office. I ask for his name and the officer. he and the officer would give it their names. But he asked for the name of the person in Las angles.
An professional would have helped you make an appointment. If I can drive hundreds of miles. I should be able to get help to make an appointment. Not hide behind your outdated website.

After reading other reviews, we went with an open mind. We were numbers 4 and 5 in line for our scheduled appointment. Once we got to the consulate office, we were pleasantly surprised when our number was called immediately. The staff member was VERY pleasant and we were in and out in less than ten minutes. We had read all the directions and our paperwork was in order when we arrived. We had the money order and stamped express mail envelope ready to go.
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.

How to make a power of attorney to send to Brasilia Brazil?
Suely Gomes | Sep 4, 2018
Marcus Campos | Sep 4, 2019
Go to the Brazilian consulate there you will be offered 2 types of power of attorney:
1 - for bank transactions, Inss ($ 5.00),
2 - sale and administration of real estate ($ 20.00)
Payment with USPS money order will only be accepted. I recommend that you verify your case and buy the money order before going to the consulate. In possession of the power of attorney, return to the USPS and send it to Brasilia. If you need more information visit the website with the consulate everything is well explained in Portuguese

My father is from, and lives in, Brasil. I've had a passport issued by Brasil when i was younger however it has expired. would i need a visa to travel there or would i still be considered a dual-citizen and be eligible to renew my passport?
John O | Sep 4, 2019
Rob Jaworski | Sep 4, 2019
From what I learned, you don't "renew" BR passports. You get a new one. So as long as you have your old one and you have a NR birth certificate, you should be able to get one. But dual citizenships, that's kinda tricky, so you may need to just go through the process and see what they say. Good luck!
I fill up an aplication to renew my passport in person, can I change it to do it by mail?
relva clow | Sep 4, 2019
Rob Jaworski | Sep 4, 2019
I think you can just abandon the first application and start a new one. It won't cost you anything and if you don't use it, it expires in three months anyway.
Do i have to have air ticket before to apply for visa from USA?
Michail Kushinsky | Sep 4, 2019

Its good to have air tickets but, it depends. If you are applying for business visa then you require few other documents from company.
And if you are applying just travel visa then just flight confirmation or bookings will work.

My grandfather was a permanent resident of Brasil who died there in 1949. I need a certified copy of his death certificate for legal use. How do I get it? Can I go to your office to get said copy? respectfully, Suzanne Crago-Schneider
Michael Crago-Schneider | Sep 4, 2018
Consulate General of Brazil in San Francisco | Sep 4, 2018
You have to ask for the copy in the same "cartório" in Brazil where the original one was issued. Then, to be valid in the US, you have to get an apostille, usually the same "cartório" should be able to do it for you.

Renewal of Brazilian passport can be done by mail (USPS). Fee for persons over 18 is $ 120.00, 1 recent 2x2 photo, RG, Birth Certificate and completed online form
Always arrive at the Consulate at 08:55 to get your number. They are like our DMV's and provide a service number. Then, I have found them to be fast and friendly for the most part.
