Went during the very popular "Glow in the Park" event. They did a great job at having everything setup and managing the crowds. It might be a "zoo" but it has more of an animal sanctuary type feel with lots of large open spaces. Still we were able to see all the wildlife and was much closer to a cheetah and hyena then I'd ever been before. It's not that big and you can easily see everything in a few hours and not feel rushed. They also do a good job of keeping the walkways shaded. Aside from that the staff was friendly, the paths and eating areas were immaculate and very well maintained. Despite it being crowded there were no lines to enter, plenty of parking, and the lines to get food were short as well. Well worth visiting. Get there when they open to beat the heat and you won't be disappointed.

The living Desert Zoo and Gardens was a great experience! Especially for the little ones looking at all the different animals from all different areas of the world was awesome! From Africa, Asian, North and South American! Garden areas pretty. They have petting goats which was nice. I recommend being a wagon or a stroller if you have kids and bring cold drinks.

Great zoo! On this visit we really focused on the birds and gardens. The newest aviary is beautiful and I loved it! The little ground hogs were adorable! (I know, not birds) The rhinos were beautiful. What a special place. Pro tip: if you want to use the hiking trails do it early and not in summer! It's too hot and there is very little shade, if any.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is amazing. We went in at opening when animals where active. Once we entered, the zoo volunteer/greeters were very nice and proactive in providing information about the park. Kids really enjoy feeding the giraffes, petting coral and animal encounter shows. Place is big enough for kids to explorer for a few hours. Animal enclosures were open and laid out right. Made you feel physically close. The gentleman/docent by the mountain lions was super friendly and patience with my kids question. Free parking. Friendly staff. Zoo grounds and restrooms are very clean. Food /drinks price are reasonable price for a non profit. Cool G-scale model train exhibit where you can enjoy with coffee. Zoo is a great family attraction when you are in the Palm Springs area.

Yes
I agree. You get more than what you pay for. It is the best Zoo we have ever been too.
It's pretty open, you could probably bring in your own food and drinks as long as it is reasonable. By that i mean alcoholic beverages would probably not be allowed. Most people are smart enough to know this.
Per their app, reserved adult (age 13+) $27.95, child (3-12) $17.95, under 3 is free, senior (62+) $25.95. At the gate tickets are $2 more for each except under 3 is still free. If you are local they also have memberships starting at $89.99. It is a wonderful zoo.
Yes there is. However, half of the zoo is on a dirt path that would be very difficult for a wheelchair to get through. It was our only issue for our stroller.
You save $2
Purchase online...13+ $27.95, 3-12 $17.95, under 3 is free. $2 more if purchased at gate Free parking
Most of the time you should be able to go a little sooner.
They were open 7am to 1:30pm. We saw the whole park and left at 10:30am when it was getting very hot. There are shady areas to sit in, so wasn't too bad. They sell cold drinks from vending machines and they do have free water bottle fill stations.
No. But if you want to donate one, I sure they consider your gift.
As Alexander said above, it's big and there's plenty of space to spread out. To control the number of people they were admitting only with reservations last time we were there. Best to call or go online in advance since things change at short notice.
Yes
All I know is it is huge. They are adding lions and rhinos by spring 2020

Yes they do. I just called. SURPRISE to me after I paid $99 for yearly membership! Anyway...they said $3 each person 2 adults 2 kids. Take plenty of water, save money!
Not sure about wheel chairs but there is a tour of the whole park you can take in a golf cart type vehicle which sounds like a good solution for you.
They pretty much categorized the zoo into 2 sections. Mostly animals from The American Southwest desert and Africa. They also have a area where they have a model railroad.
Spring after wet winter before heat of summer.
You can get 2 adult admissions for 22.99 (I think) through Costco...electronic delivery and you print and present at the gate. Kids are 9.99 at the gate
Yes, but not until the regular season which starts October 1st.
I only went there for a day. But I did enjoy my self, especially the the railway track with the trains going around and how that whole scenery depicts life in the old days
There are wallabys in the Australian enclosure that are not separated from people as you walk through. They're docile but if you're uneasy you don't have to go into the Australian section
Please understand that these questions are answer by volunteers who have been to the place, not employees or management. At my last visit the gift shop had no caps or many other items and was told that a great many items were delayed in shipping. The whole shop had a lot of empty space.
Reserved thru the app/online $27.95 each, at the gate $29.95 each.
I was a visitor at The Living Desert, this is a question for them.
Yes open on Saturdays, there are no wagons but somewhat of a stroller for the elderly
No fish but leopards, birds, mountain goats and reptiles to insects are displayed in a nice area for kids to enjoy. Just wear comfy shoes for at least a 2hr stroll.
Yes I was a little bit late too and it was no big deal
You should make reservations. Very easy to do online.
Just go to the window when you arrive & show your confirmation, they will print them
You have to purchase your tickets online so there a time slot you have to find available tickets.
What are you referring too? Its very safe for the kids. Hand sanitizer stations all around the park...
If you get the pass, it works as a discount for the stores in the zoo.
They were open during the holiday weeks and it was pretty safe to go. Everyone was wearing masks, no crowds and social distancing.
The zoo and hiking trails are open, but check their website as several things are affected by COVID. For example, all the food vendors are closed as is the giraffe feeding. Also, you need to purchase a tickets ahead of time for the day / time you want to go at the kiosk by the entrance.
Mauro, you can buy the tickets either way, online, over the phone or in person, the easiest way is in Person.
What?!?! Look at the weather on your phone or TV or literally go outside.
Sorry no 💡
When you buy your ticket online get the tour added. That is the simplest way to do it.
Yes they are with certain restrictions social distancing and face mask covering at all times
Yes you can take your own food and they also have chicken strips fries.
Yes 5$ fee
They don't seem to mind if you bring in food or drink even though they do sell both there. They have many tables and benches for your comfort.

Judy, you should call them or check their Website for more info, regarding the Operating hours and the Handicap services. I think their is an extra charge for this service; regarding the Trams, the Employees ride around in Golf carts too.
No idea. Maybe you could call them.
Parking lot tram is free inside tram is $8
I didn't see any hedgehog but they are building an Australian section so they may have some that aren't on display yet
Always wear layers of clothing in Southern California. It gets cool when the sun goes down year round.
It is the off-season currently. A lot of places in the area do. It's because of the heat. 🌡🥵
I don't think so, but we went on Groupon I found $5 discount per person.
No

You should call them...I would think they would be open on Easter.
Every 10 minutes
I think you should call up the zoo and ask might get a response quicker
Sure can. Saw a couple with one for their kids. They seemed relaxed.
Look for a barcode in the email, then show them at the gate
I specifically noted when we were there that the majority of the places were accessible by wheelchair. I work with specially abled students in Chicago for 10 years and always make a note to make sure places have accessibility. I would give this Nature Park five stars on wide accessible paved walkways in the main exhibit areas.
Not sure. Call Zoo customer service and they will be glad to answer your questions. You can easily find the number on the internet.
I saw mostly Monarchs yesterday 3/5/19, but they seemed smaller then when i was a kid
Yes, they do offer camel rides. The cost is $6 per person.
Yes and it is very handicap friendly.
Yes
I think they do
Yes they always open during their normal business hours. Some animals may not be visible though due to the rain. Also if you are going there today (2/3/2019) or tomorrow, some animals such as the wolves or the leopard will not be in their enclosures due to construction... One fun bit of info: they are preparing the enclosures for LIONS and RHINOS. A Zookeeper told us last week that they are planning for an Australian exhibit in the near future. Enjoy your day! UPDATE: The beautiful wolves are now back in their enclosures!
According to their website: "Pets of any kind are prohibited in the park and are not permitted to be left alone in vehicles for any amount of time. Working service dogs that perform tasks for their owners are permitted."
I didn't see senior discount, but they did have a AAA discount.
Yes
Boxing day is not a holiday celebrated in the U.S., so yes it will be open the 26th and it will also be open on the 24th.
They are open on the 24th. Regular hours too. They will be closed on the 25th. Though.
Yes. Wildlife run weekends until the week of Christmas. See our Web page at http://livingdesert.org for details.
Go during the day, ride the camel's and feed the giraffes. This zoo is amazing

They take cards
Don't know but wouldn't want to in the heat of the summer
It states on the website.. the day we went Friday was between 10-2 I believe.
I think so, but if not, they have special tours. Its worth every penny and know you're helping animals too...
Yes. I also believe the North America side closes earlier than the Africa side.
Less than 20 per adult
They have a snack bar and a mini restaurant that serves sandwiches and burgers
Many buisnesses around the valley sell discounted tickets too.
Yes it is. Much less crowded and more intimate...if a zoo can be intimate.
