It's pretty open, you could probably bring in your own food and drinks as long as it is reasonable. By that i mean alcoholic beverages would probably not be allowed. Most people are smart enough to know this.

I brought in my own lunch and water. They don't check your bags like Disneyland.

Not sure. We took in our own water. They seemed very relaxed at the entrance so you probably could take in your own food. When you buy food from them it helps support the zoo.

They don't check anything...they might have a problem with a big cooler but something fine would be fine. I doubt, however, that you want to lug all that stuff through the zoo. It is a pretty big place...and so AWESOME

Multiple places to eat, picnic tables etc. Easily bring in your own sandwiches and water
