Great no kill shelter for dogs, cats and small animals. I hear it’s a solid place to volunteer too. I take my boys here sometimes to let them pet the dogs. Looking forward to getting one soon.

I recommend making an appointment. It made the process of kitten adoption easier and less stressful. I only visited the kitten/ cat side but it was very clean and the cats seemed happy and playful. I have had my fur babies (2 of them- Tia and Spencer) for about eight months now and they have both remained happy and healthy.

Two stray cats wondered into our backyard and the wife just can’t resist the temptation of feeding them! But we are worry they will produce kittens so we found this service for community cats. You need to make appointment before you can drop off the cat. And entrance from the “cat” door. They will deworm, vaccinate, de-fleas, spay and chip the cat for free if you are the resident of Santa Clara county! There will be a $50 charge if you from outside of the county! The people work there are very friendly, knowledgeable and well trained! And they do show the love to animals ! We will pick up this cat this afternoon and try to enjoy this new backyard visitor!

Adopted my first rabbit here a few months ago. The shelter is very clean, and they have big pens for rabbits instead of cages, so very nice. The people who work/volunteer here are friendly and helpful. The adoption process was easy. It was unfortunate hat three days after I adopted my rabbit, he got liver lobe torsion (I’m still not sure whether it’s it)that the vet I took him to said he was unlikely to survive. I was so overwhelmed because I had zero experience of taking care of rabbits at that time. The rabbit volunteer at the shelter followed up with me and offered to help when she knew the situation. She also provided information of the background of my rabbit (although limited because my rabbit was found by a good Samaritan at a park) to help the diagnosis and treatment. Fortunately my rabbit finally survived and he is very healthy and happy now. I hoped that they had vets that I can bring my rabbit to for a second opinion and hopefully cost a little less but unfortunately they don’t (probably because it’s rabbit?), so I had to stick with the only vet I could find available at that time, and I spent a few thousands in that month. So I would suggest anyone to have pet insurance ready before the adoption if you can afford it, also the condition is not related to the shelter, my rabbit was fine before I adopted him, it’s just that anything can happen so you’re better off with an insurance.

That's why we have animal shelters Because as much as you want your pet things don't always work I'm sorry you could not keep your pet Enjoy your baby
How old do you have to be to volunteer??
Yes if you are interested in fostering pets, please give them a call.
Call animal control in that exact area based on your map app.
I believe so!
Only accept unopened food
Are you taking dogs for grooming? I would like to make an appointment.
No but if you wait to long they will put your pet up for adoption. Once it is adopted by someone else you won't be able to get your pet back.
Shelter is closed on Christmas day so everyone can spend time with their families.
They probably will but if not they can help you find someone who will. I would be very disappointed in them if they did nothing to help you. If you decide to do it yourself please check the internet for the proper type of milk. Regular milk will not be healthy for them.
Yes. I think they do.
They have a veterinarian, booked for a while,,I recommend Adobe vet's in Los Altos or los Gatos, for any reason at any one,due to anesthesia for a procedure, they will want to know what kind of dog, size ECT,
Some shelters ask you to shelters the dog while you aid them in the lost and found, because this dog wasn't surrendered for adoption, check the Craigslist and others sometimes a dog just goes for a walk and you find it near by his home but some dogs pickup a sent and follow thier nose
Dogs are housed in private rooms within the main building.
I think they have a waiting list for surrenders, but yes.
You can surrender them to the shelter if you can't take them they will find a good home.
$375 Puppies $175 Adult Dogs
You have to call the Humane Society. This is a forum not monitored by them. They'll never see your question.
I don't work for HSSV
There are chicken rescues in Bay Area, also some rescue Yahoo and FB pages - svchickens, sanmateochickens etc. Not sure how active they are now though.
No trick be persistent
Hi there! We do have a vaccine clinic. For more info, please visit https://www.hssv.org/services/spay-neuter-vaccine-clinics/#vaccineclinic
Now adoptions are only by appointment, and you meet the pets virtually. Call or go to their website to make and appointment.
Hi Just call to get an appointment. I think they do it for free
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. You can find all information about our adoption process, including available animals, at hssv.org/adopt
Hi there - you can find a full list of available dogs on our website at hssv.org/dogs. For more information on our current adoption process, please visit hssv.org/adopt
Please call to ask, I don't think anyone official checks this regularly enough to answer.
Yes there are dogs there
I think you can check their website for dogs available. But a dog like that would get picked up fast.
Hi Tien, we do not offer spay/neuter surgeries for rabbits. However, there are a few local places that offer this service - here's a list: Central Animal Hospital Parktown – Neuter only, not spay Animal Medical Clinic Santa Clara Pet Hospital San Jose Animal Hospital
I am not sure but my kitten came as potty trained. I think cats you dont have to train. They instinctively know if you place litter box. Dogs are different. You have to train them. It is not difficult. You place them in the cage during the night and take them out to do their business first thing in the morning where you want them to do the business. Note that puppies like human babies cannot hold all night until they are old. It may take couple weeks. Reward them when they do it where u want them to do business. My dog understand pee pee so before I bring it inside to sleep I command pee pee and it obliges.
Some of them are, but there are some that were rescued or are puppies that have not yet been trained
HSSV has a low cost vaccine clinic but I don't know if they offer low cost neutering, you would want to call.
I don't think that they would let you take her back or get a refund because they want a forever home for the puppy and if got one your not her forever home. ( You should think about what you are going to do before you do it 🙂
You can call the humane society and they might pick them up, or call a Uber driver and ask them to pick up and drop off the kitties.
You'd bring her on her leash to the back part of the building. They will ask you questions there and then when all is done and said they will take her in. There may or may not be a charge.
No charge to surrender. To neuter I believe no charge. For my dog no charge, no charge for chip only paid 25 for something n also got nails cut. N shots r free during week. Wonderful ppl
They provided some food, we provided some as well (tax deductable as a cash donation) because driving there is far for us. We also provide nicer kitty litter, toys, etc than what they have to offer.
Pricing is on their website but if I remember correctly, it's runs between $300 to $350. Less for adult dogs that's harder to find a adopters
Yes, they can accept donated toys of any kind.
My dog lost to get back my dog.she has a complete paper registration
It's only about $100 at the San Jose Animal Shelter for puppies and $65 for dogs that are six years or older!
They accept all brands of dog food and cat food. They have a cat donation slot out side the cat section. If u can't find it, ask a staff member for help and they will show u it.
They accept blankets, towels, cat scratch postes
Check on the website - it has the training class schedule listed as well.
U can go there and talk to them in person. Their organization of animals may not be the best but they try to be and they do find the pet's info and let u go pet the animal and meet it
Go here. Or call them 1st, they have some services available.
Yes u can donate ur hay there.
In my option, it’s always a good ideia to get them used to a collar and ID tag, even if they are indoors only. Just make sure to ONLY use a good quality break-away cat collar and to have it fit right. If the collar is too loose, it may get stuck in their mouth and cause injuries. Thanks for adopting!
Towels and some bedding (I don't think they take fitted sheets). I volunteer there helping with kittens being treated for ringworm and we are always in need of towels, sheets and pillowcases ;)
https://www.hssv.org/adopt/#adoption_fees
They have some campaigns going on all the time. Call up and ask about the latest rate. I'm sure they can give you discounts
Yes, I have had several fosters and really enjoy it. I feel very supported.
There is Meet-and-Greet area where you can spend time with a dog. You must sign in at the Kios first, and wait for your turn
You can visit them at any time before 6pm and can meet any of the pets you would love to meet.
Hi - more info about surrendering can be found here: http://www.hssv.org/what-we-do/pet-care-services/pet-surrender/pet-surrender-services.html#landingpage
You can do a walk in from 9 to 11 am
No..but they are nominal compared to the vet prices ...something around $11
No, but you must live within the regional ZIP codes that are accepted, with ID proof. Primarily Santa Clara County. Some services are provided, with a fee, for those residing outside of the acceptance zones
$175.00 for dogs $375.00 for puppies. That includes a 6 week puppy class.
I paid 175 total for my 1 year old dog..
Please call the Humanne Society and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Yes you can go pet the dogs and cats. The animals need and love people to come see them. You have to be 18 years old or have an adult with you.
They do have puppy specials on Sunday but they are not free. They charge $10.00 a class. You can go to their web site and check it out.
They hold the dog for 10 days. They reach out to the owner if the dog is chipped. They are a no kill shelter so they will work with the dog to get it ready for adoption after the 10 days.
You need to call animal control not the humane society
What kind of antibiotic do you need? I have cephalexin 500mg that my dog no longer needs. Happy to share if you have no other option and your vet approves
Yes, thats animal cruelty! You can get up to 3 years in prison if your caught intentionally harming an animal. You should turn your roommate in! What's next? Is he going to shoot someone who's talking to loudly. People like that, that have no regard for life, they deserve to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Calling The Humane Society is a great starting point to taking care of this. They can let you know if it's in their jurisdiction, or give you the right people to call.
Animal Memorial Service in Gilroy has private cremations that include the urn for around $100 which. The best price in the bay area, and you can view the creamation process. They are off Muraoka Drive in Gilroy. Make sure to call or email to set up your appointment.
Actually they need to scan just to make sure he is microchiped...
10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sat & Sun.
Go to the website, there are different links, look the one for voluntering, and send them an email...
They have a lot of puppies in the pipeline. You will need to check the website constantly because puppies get adopted quickly.
You can call the wildlife center or Animal control and they can give you more in detail info.
They also have summer programs for students
Yes.
Yes, but check the web sites for the dates with Vaccination Clinics. I think they don't do it on Wednesdays.
They do charge to surrender your pet and you have to make a appointment. Nicest facilities ive ever seen.
Yea they do but you need to call intake and make an appointment for surrender
Depends if feral or not, male or female. Call their medical center.
Don't think any of the items you mentioned can be used by the shelter. Perhaps you could donate them to HOPE.
Yes... my granddaughter is doing here sophomore community hrs there. She loves it.
Go look in person put your name on list the bay area is full of shelters...you will find that pup and good luck..
Get it vaccinated, fixed, and a full check up at a vet. Of primary concern is fleas, worms, and ringworm (a fungus, can be passed to humans which requires a cream to get rid of). If you have other cats or plan to eventually, maybe a blood test to check for FIV or feline leukemia. Oh, and register with the city you're in. Not a huge deal but cats have to be registered. If you forget, youll get a mailer.
Not sure if HSSV offers the service. I'd call.
Cats, dogs, and rabbits. No birds.
Call the medical center at HSSV, if they fo not do it, they can suggest other places for low income surgeries. Good luck!
Check with the humane society in Milpitas - they may be able to help
No
Possibly, give them a call.
Call them first. Depends on where your friend lives. She might need to pay a surrender fee.
