They hold the dog for 10 days. They reach out to the owner if the dog is chipped. They are a no kill shelter so they will work with the dog to get it ready for adoption after the 10 days.
When they find a dog they will check it out to see if it is ok for adoption. They test it by giving it food or treats, then they reach out and take the treat from the dog if he growls and trys to bite them then the dog is not ok for adopting out. They put it down. If your dog is in there and you know it is I advise you to talk to them about it they will work with you to try and get the dog back to you. If you wait until its adopted by someone. Then it's gone forever. You can't get it back. They have a lot of animals coming in every day so they have to make room by either adopting them out or by euthanizing them. They only have so much room to keep the animals. When it runs out they kill the ones that would be the hardest to adopt out.
Most dogs are ready for adoption immediately. Rarely is former owner involved. If you are surrendering a dog, talk to hssv & submit ppwk.
