Look into the area of Luray, Va. Days inn is at the base of the entrance.
In addition to the other excellent suggestions, within the Park proper, there is a historic lodge from the 1920/1930s time period (it's been updated) called Skyland. There are rooms, restaurant, Ranger programs, and hikes that start from there. Enjoy the park.
Outlanders in luray is awesome
Massanutten is a great place to stay. It's about an hour drive to the cavern.
You can start with reservations at a hotel in Waynesboro, VA. There is so much that you can do. Hiking is my favorite. Once you're at the hotel, they can direct you to the visitors center at the park. You will be provided with a map to guide you through your hiking trip of your choice. There are local attractions that you can also chose from based on your interests.
The Days End is a good spot. If you do go to the caverns, wear hiking boots, and take a sweater..it is about 50 degrees inside the cavern.. Also there is a Car Museum, a Maze, and plenty of spots to eat.
