Are there pit toilets anywhere along the AT?

In the northern half of the Shenandoah AT segment there is one composting outhouse maintained by volunteers. Other than that you will have access to a few of the waysides to use those restrooms. So bring your trowel, and please follow the guidelines for properly burying human waste along the AT.

Every shelter has a privy. Some are nicer than others.
