We didn't see any bears at all. We had bear spray and bells for when we hiked. Also, in the camp grounds there are rangers. If people follow the food rules, there shouldn't be any trouble.

Bears won't hurt you unless you annoy them. If you don't even want to see a bear, this isn't the place for you. If you don't mind seeing them though, just stay in your car.

We have been visiting Shenandoah for years and have only ever seen a bear on one occasion. As everyone else says just keep your food in containers stored in your vehicle

Bears are a rare sighting. Keep all food in your car in closed containers. Wear a bear whistle and bear mace.

Wear a whistle.

We were told to take normal precautions after i asked . Otherwise there were really no precaution signs.. They didnt seem too concerned like they are in Sequoia. But then it was cold last week and they could still be hibernating. There really isn't any follage out so no berries.... I dont believe the bears are a menace unless you leave out candy wrappers etc in your car or porch or trash. I totally respect bears. They are awesone strong as i have experience with them from our cabin in Canada and tenting in mammoth and lodging in Sequoia.
