I am handicapped and can't go on hiking trails. Is it at all possible to see the wild horses by driving through in your car? Where is the best area to go?

Hi Justine. It's possible but completely dependent on where they are. There's a parking area near the Massey Gap trailhead in the State Park where they have access to (there's a fence to prevent them getting to the road) but just depends if they're there. They were the last time I was there a month ago but I've also not seen them there. The only other place I know of is Scales Campground, but it's a dirt road to get there. Good luck!

Great explanation Paul

I agree with what Paul said. The last time I was there, there was one pony just on the other side of the fence at the trailhead. But, where you are parked, you are easily 200 -300 yards away. That was the only time I have seen one so close. Most of the time, you have to hike up the trail for 0.5 miles to get to the ridge where some of them stay.
