You have to pay because it is a state park. There is swimming only where the lifeguards are
You have to pay at the entrance of the park and beach area where there are designated life guards
There actually is another way to get in but I believe it's more private. Like people live on that side of the lake.
U are allowed to swim in other areas, but at ur own risk.
I never heard of another entrance, only the front/entrance.

I have heard there is a back way in to the park, where you can get to the lake to swim.

Swimming is allowed only at the beach on the main lake unfortunately. There are few boat launches, including on the other side of that lake and on two others, but swimming isnt allowed there. Only boats, kayaks, etc.
