I’ve got some pics
I didn't see any cabins while I did see RV and Tent Camping. There a feed to enter the park per vehicle.
From our very informative website: Between the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, guarded beach swimming is available for a fee. Weather and other issues may at times force suspension of guarded swimming. When guarded swimming is unavailable, guests may swim at the beach’s designated area but do so at their own risk. Swimming elsewhere in the park is prohibited. The swimming beach has a bathhouse and concession area. From the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, guarded swimming and a snack bar are available 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Operating hours are weather dependent.
There's a legend you can find in the second paragraph of this page: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/hungry-mother#general_information. It is speculated that the story was made up. Virginia opened six parks on June 15, 1936, the first state to open a whole state park system on one day. The theory was the park came up with the legend and name to make their park stand out among the others.
I didn’t do any fishing, while we were there, but I did see a guy catch a fish, in the stream, near the rv park.
Royal Oak area has appr. 20'×20' decks to set your tent up on with fire ring and cooking rack. Very nice setup and close to bath house.
Its easy you can do it without reservation.
It is stocked yearly. There is a 18" limit on size though.
I do not know, but, as long as there are no body guards, you can swim as much as you want
Published hours show it closes at 7 p.m. weekends but the park can decide to close for some reasons including weather.
6 to get in the park an 4 for adults an 3 for children to swim
You can get on the site online and put in dates ...it will show prices for sites and availability I believe.
I'm sorry I don't know. Please contact the park directly.
It really depends on what time of year you visit, the prices may vary.
I'm sorry..we didn't rent any cabins. We went thru the visitors center. I'm sure they listed rates, but, I didn't notice..sorry
All reservation are made through reserve America
Depends on season and size and park. Check the specific fees on the websites. Minimum stays apply as well. Http://www.Virginia state parks.gov.
We have a nightly camping fee. Reservations are recommended so you can be sure you have a campsite.
No that is a Federal program. This is a state park. We use all of the fees we collect to operate our parks.
Yes, we are open today until 10 pm
Yes. Dogs are allowed nearly everywhere outdoors except on the swimming beach (Health Dept rule). They must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet. They are not allowed in public buildings.
We have a combination of site specific, where you reserve a specific site, and non site specific where you reserve in a campground and pick from what is available of those sites when you get there. Our website https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/hungry-mother has a link to a chart with the site specific sites and their sizes https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/site-spec-hm.pdf and to pictures of those sites. https://www.flickr.com/photos/vastateparksstaff/albums/72157682690885785
Not at Hungry Mother. We don’t have horse trails there. We have Grayson Highlands and New River Trail nearby with extensive horse trails. Check specifics here https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/horse-camping-trails
There is a legend but there is also speculation that it was invented back in 1936. We opened 6 state parks and our system at the same time and the theory is that some clever folks thought the legend and name would make it stand out. They were probably right. The Legend of Hungry Mother Legend has it that when the Native Americans destroyed several settlements on the New River south of the park, Molly Marley and her small child were among the survivors taken to the raiders’ base north of the park. They eventually escaped, wandering through the wilderness eating berries. Molly finally collapsed, and her child wandered down a creek until the child found help. The only words the child could utter were "Hungry Mother." The search party arrived at the foot of the mountain where Molly collapsed to find the child's mother dead. Today that mountain is Molly’s Knob, and the stream is Hungry Mother Creek.
Here is the fee chart: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescabins.pdf

Guarded swimming starts Saturday and is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Operating hours are weather dependent. When guarded swimming is not available, you can swim at your own risk but the bathhouse won't be open.
Guarded swimming opens May 25. Here's a list of the programs over the weekend: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/park-events-list?srchloc=HM&eventtype=all&BDate=05%2F25%2F2019&EDate=05%2F27%2F2019&action=detail
Should have no issues with getting shelter this time of year. At worst case you may have to walk 100 yard or less to a restroom and I don't see that even happening. To cold for most people right now. My prediction .. Other then staff and your people the place will be pretty much vacant. Enjoy...
Thank you everyone I'm moving to Marion Friday I will contact someone for more details
$60 or $90 depending on whether you reserve the large or small. The rental just guarantees use of the shelter. Normal parking fees apply. Call 800-933-7275 for more details.
Yes. I am responding to this on 9/19 so because of all the rain from Hurricane Florence you might check with the park to make sure there is no lake flooding before heading to the park.
We have had so much rain this year, I am not sure typical fall peak periods will be the same. It depends a lot on weather in the next month. It is still very hot. I would estimate mid October for good color at Hungry Mother. Call our Customer Service Center to check availability 900-933-7275.
Its 5 for 30 min and 8 for hour per boat and only 4 people per boat
All the camping except RV camping is pretty close to the resturant
If you're staying at the park sign up for the 9 am morning kayak tour on Sunday. It's 5 bucks for about an hour and a half guided tour and they provide the kayak and gear. The rental office doesn't open until 11 am otherwise. Its a great lake for kayaking.
20,30,33 depends on what u want sites you want and if site preferred it's another $3 And Campers are a totally different price
This is a State Park National Park Pass discounts dont apply
I am not sure Cindy but, if you go to the main office at the park, I am sure they will advise you of were to go.. They are really nice and well informed.
Tons of outdoor attractions there! Kayaking, walking, short easy bike trails, rentals available or byo for paddle boards, paddle boats, kayaks and canoes, restaurant, beach/ sand pit area picnic tables bring your own horse shoes or cornhole! Seasonal outdoor Movie theater and mini golf close by. But outside of the park there is nothing in Marion or within a 30 mile radius until you get to Abingdon/ Bristol Virginia... hope that helps!
Why don't you contact the ranger station and ask them I'm sure the number is on their website
All bedding is provided along with a days supply of towels and one set if kitchen linen. Each cabin also has a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and a basic supply of pots, pans, dishes, and cups. There is no replacement or cleaning service but you can go trade in individual sets of linens during your stay for a fee. They also supply you with one bundle of wood and information about park amenities including your passes for swimming and parking vehicles at no additional charge so be sure to hit the office for your welcome packet even if you arrive before check-in time. The staff is absolutely awesome. They'll even call you if your site becomes available before 4pm check-in.
