Always very happy when visiting SML. Clean, safe, very well managed, and best of all, so much to do, or if you choose, do nothing at all. Can't wait for spring!
CHAOSNCHECK T
Two night stop. Had site #14. Lots of shade, gravel pad, picnic table and fire ring. Store was well stocked. Easy check in. No sewer. Had three bars with Verizon

Stunning scenery, travelling from the UK we needed some guidance, so a big thanks to the Park Ranger for his advice!

Smith Mountain Lake Community Park in Virginia is a wonderful place to celebrate birthdays, baby showers or just to enjoy the beautiful sites. My nephew and his wife recently had their baby shower there. It was wonderful!

Go to the va state park website, click on cabins and there's a link to fees for all seasons and types
Recommend you call the information Center at the park. It beach was closed as of yesterday.
We have a per car parking fee of $5 for Virginia residents and $7 for non-residents. For weekend days swimming is $4 for age 13 and up, $3 for ages 3-12 and free for under 3. Weekdays are a dollar cheaper for each of those. Guarded swimming starts the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. When guards aren't available we allow swimming at your own risk in the roped off area at no fee.
No idea.... check with fish and game dept.
Yes
It's $7 to enter the park, and $4 per adult to access the beach. The ranger will give you tape to hang your receipt in your windshield when you park, and you get wrist bands at the beach.
There are a few different trails; I regularly do a loop that covers basically the whole park and my watch says it's a hair over 2 miles.
Where did you email? Perhaps not to a state park email? Our state park is only a small part of the whole Smith Mountain Lake area. Our roads are all state roads and golf carts are not allowed on state roads.
No and the campground is closed now until March. However, we do rent cabins at the park. https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/smith-mountain-lake#cabins
Water and electric and a dump station, no sewer hookups.
Cabins in the State Park are around $130 per night before taxes and fees.
We just got back from a camping trip to Smith Mountain lake. The campground has a men's and a women's bathroom. Both have a handicap stall. There is one handicap accessable shower room that is very spacious. I believe the main office/visitor center also has handicap accessible stalls in the bathrooms. The rangers are super nice, so they'll work with you guys too make sure everything is great!
All of our full service campgrounds offer water and electric although many also have sites without electricity but with water hydrants scattered through the campground. Only 2 parks have sewer: Camp Burson at Hungry Mother and Kiptopeke.
Yes they all have picnic tables and fire pits.
Fees can be found here: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescamping.pdf
Yes, we're open.
Yes
Opened today (6/12/2020)
Our beach has been closed but we have a 3rd party rental company so check with them: From Memorial Day through Labor Day, call 540-297-3642 for information and reservations; call 540-721-1639 the rest of the year. If the first number doesn't work, try the second because I don't know if they are on site yet. Our beach should be opening next weekend (June 13, 2020)
We don't have sewer but have a dump station. Here are the fees: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescamping.pdf. Campground in open the first Friday of March until the first Monday in December.
There is a dam on Smith Mountain Lake but it is a big lake and "near" is a relative term. It's about a half hour away by car. They have a nice visitor center: http://www.smithmtn.com/about/VisitorsCenter.aspx See the Google map directions to the dam from our park here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Smith+Mountain+Lake+State+Park,+1235+Rd+888,+Huddleston,+VA+24104/2074+Ford+Rd,+Sandy+Level,+VA+24161/@37.0902123,-79.5849243,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x884d45d9c22c3491:0x579f64b1b5bb0c!2m2!1d-79.5929977!2d37.0918953!1m5!1m1!1s0x884d4fa3efa3c6d5:0xd0294af2494fc710!2m2!1d-79.533094!2d37.041387!3e0?hl=en&authuser=0
It's a small lake bro. There is a dock but I think it's made for launching paddle boats and such. Check out cheary lake if you want to bring anything sizable.
Night fishing allowed in areas not gated/closed, normal parking fees apply.
There's boat launch you have to pay but I don't think you can leave it overnight.
Yes! And there are bathrooms, ve ding machines and picnic tables there too. Down the cove where the swim beach is but yo the right in the cove. Boat ramps there also.
Yes. Technically it is a trailer parking fee. It is $3 for the trailer on top of the $7 parking fee.
This is a state park. We don't sell campers or spaces for campers - we rent sites for camping in our campground.
Yes. They are very popular. The summer cabins usually book out at the advance window which is 11 months.
In most areas of the park in a leash no longer than 6’. Dogs are not allowed on the swimming beach (state law) or the park office, discovery center, restrooms or bathhouses.
Sometimes they open the beach two weeks before Memorial Day on weekends only. You should call to find out. There is a parking fee and a beach fee. It has been at least five years since I have been.
Yes. They use flat bottom filters.
No. Virginia residents get a 15% and we offer a loyalty program that equates to another 10%.
We have a third party that manages that concession. Here are the details: Boat rentals (canoes, kayaks, hydrobikes, paddleboats, pontoon boats, ski boats and jet skis) are available at the park from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park concessionaire also rents boats offsite the rest of the year. Reservations are taken for those wishing to rent more than six hours. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, call 540-297-3642 for information and reservations; call 540-721-1639 the rest of the year.
Dogs must be on a leash and are not allowed in swimming area.
Go through the main entrance. There's a booth there and you can ask attendant or follow signs on the road. If you go straight all the way to the end and park...the beach is on the left. You have to walk past the restrooms and refreshment stands to get to it. You really can't see it from the parking lot.
Not allowed on the beach itself (sand), but can be brought and left further up on the grass area. There are signs letting you know where the line is.
They have a web site with all the prices
Yes.
We are open 365 days a year except for a few hunting days in the fall.
Not necessarily. Check the VA Dept. of Parks & Recreation website.
The lake is always open, just use any accessible launch ramp.
I don't think so. They have camping areas but not designed for long term storage.
Yes, have camping spots and cabins
You can reserve a cabin if you plan ahead. Cabins for July 4th week 2018 were fully booked by mid January.
No sites near the water, you can't see the water through the trees.
