The Grand Floridian opened in 1988.. its modeled after various resorts around the world and on the East Coast of Florida. But, most people would agree its very much like the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.
I am not sure what year the design came from, but I over heard one hotel staff say to another guest that the Grand Floridian was styled after an estate in Michigan. Not sure that is true, because I didn't personally check the internet for confirmation. But that is what I overheard. Follow up. Check this link https://www.wdwinfo.com/walt-disney-world/the-history-of-disneys-grand-floridian-resort-spa-part-one/. According to this, the GF was a composite of several facilities from which the designers got their inspiration. One of the facilities was in San Diego, another in Michigan, and there were others.
It was styled after Fl old traditional mansions from back in the 1800's
