Yes but if you aren't an experienced pet owner, you have a lot to consider. Dogs can live over 15 years. Are you prepared for that commitment? Are you financially prepared to handle not just the cost of ownership but emergency medical expenses that could run thousands? Do you own your home? If not, will you take the dog if you move? Did you get landlord approval? How much time will the dog be home alone? If you answered no to even one question, maybe fostering a dog would be better for all involved. Dogs worlds revolve around their owner. If you abandon them, you break their heart. I am not trying to discourage you, it's so worth everything you go through. Just be prepared so you can be part of the solution instead of someone dropping the same dog back at the shelter in a year, or 5 years, or even 10 years.
