I was a registered guest and was accused of not being a guest and asked to leave by the pool staff. Probably because I was not ordering anything. Management later apologized but I do not think it would be easy to crash the pool as a non-guest

You can attend pool with another guest or a spa pass. Otherwise most times there is an attendant blocking access without a room reservation.
Yes, it is there are staff everywhere and as soon as you sit down they want to set up your space (towels and ice water) and will ask you for a room number.

Haha. Call and ask how you would be able to get a pass for the pool area. We used the spa so we got a pass. Its amazing!!!
