Poison ivy and poison sumac only grow in the eastern United States. Poison oak grows here in the western U.S.. The only place I have seen it in Oregon is in the foothills in the Rogue Valley and only one spot in the higher elevation (which is unusual), on the side of the road on Highway 58 along Odell lake. I have never seen any poison oak in the Chiloquin area. Just to be sure I would call them and ask. The volunteers and people that help maintain the park keep everything well groomed and clean.
I have not seen any while I have been there!
Karen- in checking with one of our locals, there haven't been any reports of poison oak around the main areas of our facility where visitors go. Our facility covers 2200 acres, so it is impossible to say there isn't any at all. As Reed said, our volunteers keep our vegetation down and well maintained. What tends to be the biggest nuisances are the mosquitoes, dehydration, and sun burns. We recommend visitors to bring plenty of water, sun screen, a big hat, and bug spray.
The short answer is NO... Train Mountain is well maintained and very visitor friendly!
