You can launch off the Dunedin Causeway. It's just a short paddle across the pass to Caladesi. The kayaking is great. You've got St. Joseph Sound, or you can go out in the Gulf. Sea grass beds, mangroves, beautiful white sand beaches, dolphins, manatees, turtles, rays, and don't even get me started on the birds. Have fun.
It is not possible to drive to Caladesi Island. You would need to launch at any convenient location near the island and kayak to the island. Have a look at the aerial photos and you can decide whether you want to approach the island from the beach side or from the intracoastal side.
As mentioned by others, free parking on Dunedin Causeway right on the beach if you need to. Did this with our JetSki last time, even easier with a kayak.
We kayak over to caladesi frequently from Dunedin Causeway. Parking is free and you can pull up near the water. You can also park at Honeymoon Island. But you have further to go to t.f h ed water.
The kayaking was great, you have to rent on the island at the snack bar. Two different routes to go with lots of freedom to do that you want.
The mangrove kayak tunnels are beautiful. There are two different circuits you can take if you rent kayaks on the island. Both are self-guided, though, and therefore offer a lot of freedom.
Kayaking is great there! I wouldn't recommend it during the summer and fall heat due to the lack of breeze. There's a few trails back inside the cove also. Very beautiful!
Great kayaking. We rented there.
