Car rental companies usually REQUIRE a Credit Card, not a debit card to rent a car.
I think debit cards are too risky because they're attached to your bank account, use a credit card if you have one...
A credit card is required to rent a vehicle, it's easier and you may have free insurance from your credit card company if you use your credit card to pay.
They ideally prefer a credit card. The rental company needs to put money on hold for the duration of the rental. They put around USD 300 on hold. The reason is that north american credit cards have higher credit limit. However, the manager sometimes can put a hold of USD 500 on your debit card as deposit and allow you to go ahead with your rental. However, many a times they do send customers away due to lack of credit card. Tip: Call and speak to several rental car companies at the airport and find one that is willing to work with you given your situation. Also, if you buy their auto insurance then they might be willing to work with you. Not all rental car companies are rigid with their policies. Good luck.
