The red tide does not affect terrestrial life at this time. It is only an aquatic toxin. Please check out Mote laboratory's website for more about red tide and the algae that produces the toxin and it's effects.

I haven't NOTICED any dead birds, thankfully....and I live right on the bay...although, my mother and I recently went to Boca Grande, about 2 months ago, and the redtide was AWFUL...worst I've ever seen it(in my 24 years living down here!...absolutley putrid(and extremly heartbreaking!).. We saw TONS AND TONS of dead fish, but I don't recall seeing any dead birds..but we did find a couple of bones that LOOKED like they were from a bird. :(... I'm sure if its powerful enough to wipe out ALLLL these fish, at least SOME birds were impacted by it as well, unfortunately...
