Agreed, only the gardens can answer these questions for you.

I think you need to place this on the website for the SD botanical gardens, especially if your willing to volunteer your time in helping them.

Contact the Botanical gardens.

You should call the Botanical Garden as that would be a more direct way to get ahold of them.
