Does the sand get hot here in December? Planning a trip, much advice needed, thanks. :)

I wouldn't think it would get hot during December. I would check to make sure they're open in the winter months...

Was just there beginning of September, sand not hot. But it was lightening. Need to watch weather and make sure you drink enough and bring drinks. From entrance to parking for sand area is about 17 miles and longer for drinks etc. Enjoy your vacation!

There might even be snow on the dunes. San Luis Valley is very cold in winter due to the cold air sinking from the surrounding mountains.

No, it is very manageable in winters. The park stays open all year round i believe (or so the visitor center said).

It wasnt hot two weeks ago.. still a desert and you need to make sure you drink lots of water. But it should be a great time.
