Camping spots get filled quite a bit. There are parking areas that we seen people "hanging out" in their cars all night. Dont think it is encouraged... But there is that if you are just wanting to check it out and split. Night time sky is worth checking out.
Not to get into the park, but you will need a permit if you plan to camp overnight in the dunes.
