Tevas work best to walk around whether or not the sand is hot
I would say depends on the time of year and what you are doing there - if you are just playing in the river anything will do. If in the summer -high top boots- its hot and sand gets everywhere. If in spring or Autumn- trainers or closed toe shoe of some type( just take them off before the river crossing - you will freeze but quickly warm up when you start the trek up) . I also had a some luck walking softly with a shoe with limited tread - if you are careful, you can keep from sinking in the sand on every step. ( used a pair or really worn out dockers. ) Good luck - the walk to the top is a real leg burner - but the view is worth it! Have fun.
I like keens... closed toed sandals. The river is shallow for the most part, but still needs to be crossed. And sand gets everywhere no matter what.
