I'd agree to try and stick to the suburbs or outskirts of Denver itself if price is an issue, however, if you're wanting to experience downtown in it's full splendor, try the Brown Palace

I stay at the westin downtown

Downtown hotels are more expensive ranging from $180 to $400. You can do a google search. But hotels in lakewood area in my option is more convenient.
