I stayed one night a couple of months ago, but didn't write a review. I noticed there were several negative reviews recently. I'm going back in a couple of days to stay one night again with my dog. He loves the mountains. I've been going to Helen for over forty years and have stayed at this motel many times. It has changed hands over the years but I can't recall ever having a "bad" stay. Little things here and there, but always seemed to have it resolved. The latest stay a couple of months ago was great. We had a room on the lower level. Upon arrival the check-in process was good with very friendly service and the room had the AC already on so the room was nice and cool. It looked like the room had been recently updated with flooring and upgrades in the bathroom. The motel is of course older than some of the others, but during my stay it appeared that the staff was really trying to get things in order. Everywhere businesses are trying to hire workers which has had an impact on their service. But I try not to complain too much if the staff working appear to be trying their best. Hopefully our stay in a couple of days will be like our last one.

My girlfriend and our daughter chose to stay here due to the convenient location and affordable price. Overall we’re happy with our stay. The lot could use some cleaning (old mattress laying in a fenced in area by the pool), and the receptionist charged me twice but said the first one shouldn’t go through.. both currently pending, we shall see. However the room was clean, the complimentary breakfast was nice, and the staff were all very friendly. Love the location as it is a short walk to the main strip. UPDATE: The additional charge was removed and everything worked as it should.

Front desk staff was friendly. She recommended things to do and provided a map of the area. I provided a bonus star for that. The room was not clean. It had dirt on the floor when we entered, and a wet, dirty towel hanging on the bathroom door that was not from us. The walls needed wiped down and the air conditioner did not work until I wiggled the cord the right way. If we hadn't been so tired and hungry, and arrived late at night, we would have stayed elsewhere. I shared these issues with the front desk attendant upon checkout. He made notes in a notebook, but offered no resolution.

Although the hotel was dated, it was very clean and the staff was pleasant and helpful. The location was very convenient to downtown Helen and was quiet. It is old style with doors opening to parking lot and 2 floors with no elevators that I could see. The sink was outside the bath so it wasn't convenient to use without waking up my husband, who sleeps later than I do.
