I have three kittens and two adult cats currently living under the deck in my backyard and contacted OFSA to see what options might exist for sheltering them, or what I could do in general regarding this situation. The person I spoke to immediately said "they are probably feral and don't belong in a shelter so there is probably nothing you can do" and left it at that with no further explanation. I started to stammer after being dumb struck by this statement with her not following up with any further statement and she asked me where I lived. I told her the city and she responded with "that is not helpful, where in [city]?" I then told her the conversation was over and she needs to learn how to communicate with people. Pathetic. EDITED AFTER RESPONSE TO REVIEW: The fact that this person is responding claiming I was rude, is hilarious. I ended the call because I am not going to continue speaking with a person that will belittle me and waste my time.

I adopted my dog from their adoption drive event. Event was smooth and foster parent was very diligent in telling all the details. On the spot with all the medical needs of the puppy. Surely one of the best shelters in the area.

Very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable. When I adopted, they gave me cat food and litter box. Thank you so much!

We had a great experience adopting from OFOSA. Tracy was quick to reply, kind, and gave us all the information we needed. We would definitely go through them again in the future!

Have you found a home for your dog? Does she get along with other animals? Is she leash trained? Car trained? I assume since she is 5, her shots are up-to-date and that you have all of her records so she could easily be transferred to another vet? I have 2 mild mannered senior dogs who are litter mates and have never been alone. The male is in declining health and the female will need a companion if she is to survive more than a few weeks by herself. To this end I have been looking for a dog who is gentle in disposition, mild mannered, and won't mind sharing house and humans with another. About my husband and myself, I am in my early 60's and have always had a cat and/or dog since I was 3. Sometimes as many as 3 each at one time! I have an infinite compacity to love and care for furry children😊. We've been married 40+ years and during that time have had 4 cats and 6 dogs, and if you think we might be a good match for your "baby" please contact me. Thanks Kat
Contact the office, they're there daily and you will get a faster response than posting here. Thanks!
Hello -- we are a rescue and all of our dogs are in foster homes so we are not in need of any volunteers. You might check with Washington County Animal Services to see if they have any need...or Oregon Humane Society. Thanks so much.
Thanks for reaching out. It must be hard to need to rehome a companion you’ve had for 2 years. Unfortunately, we do not have the space to take her in at this time. We suggest using Adopt-A-Pet.com for rejoining her. It is a wonderful platform where you can find a living forever home for her. Best wishes.
I believe they do have cats that are in foster care that are available for adoption.
Please go to our website, www.ofosa.org, to see all of our dogs available for adoption.
Hi there Yaeli. We are actually not in need of any new volunteers at this time. We are a small foster-based rescue, so we don't actually have a lot of work for volunteers and we're currently staffed! Please follow our Facebook page and if we ever need volunteers, we'll post about it there. Thanks so much for reaching out!
Thank you for your interest in volunteering. Due to restrictions by our liability insurance carrier, volunteers are required to be at least 18 years old.
Hi Michelle - thanks for your question. Our website is updated with available dogs. We do have some young dogs under a year old currently. You can also check on Thursday morning of this week for further updates after pups are spayed/neutered. We will be at PetSmart-Washington Square on Saturday, 2/15, 12-4 pm. Thanks again! https://ofosa.org/adoptable-dogs-waiting-for-a-forever-home/
Care Credit is offered by many vets. It allows you to pay the visit off over many months with no interest. There can be many reasons for itching and biting - allergies, fleas, food reaction, etc. You need to find the cause so it can be treated and not masked.
Hi Sharon -- you can view all of our available dogs and puppies on our website at: http://ofosa.org/adoptable-dogs-waiting-for-a-forever-home/. I'm sorry for your loss of Lillie. We are a foster-based rescue and we do have litters of puppies frequently. We don't currently have any of that breed, however. Thank you for reaching out!
Is there a reason why you haven't spayed your cat? Unspayed females will fight with other female cats.
Emma - thank you for your question. We do not have a physical shelter building. Our animals are in foster homes. You can find out more info on our website, www.ofosa.org.
David, thanks for reaching out. I’m not sure which house you’re speaking of, if it’s the address on Google, That is only the mailing address. We do not have a physical shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes, with some cats and Petsmart, and some dogs and Fido’s in Tigard. Thanks again.
Hi! What kind of companion? We rescue dogs and cats. Thanks.
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Teens can volunteer at our adoption events as long as they are chaperoned by a parent. If that works for you, you and a parent can fill out a volunteer application at http://ofosa.org/be-an-ofosa-volunteer/. Thanks again!
Deb -- thank you for reaching out. We understand that rescuing and owning a pet is an investment and commitment for the life of the dog. Our adoption fees include many services: spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations, free month of pet insurance, and any other necessary medical expenses. Our organization does adopt to families with children under the age of 12 depending on the animal and its behavior. You can also check out a service provided by the Petco Foundation, https://www.adoptapet.com/ where pet owners post their pets for purposes of rehoming them. There are also shelter/rescue dogs on that site. You can check out our available pups at: http://ofosa.org/adoptable-dogs-waiting-for-a-forever-home/ and meet some of them at our adoption event this Saturday, 3/30, at The Filling Station Pet Supplies on Nimbus in Tigard. Please bring the whole family if you are interested in meeting one of our pups. Thanks again for reaching out and best wishes for finding your forever pup!
Hi Andrew - thanks for reaching out. We sold our physical shelter at the beginning of 2018, and now all of our animals live in foster homes for the most part. Teens can volunteer to help out at events, but must be accompanied with a parent. You can go to our website at www.ofosa.org and fill out a volunteer application if you’re interested.
We’ll be at Petco in Hillsboro on Saturday with dogs, noon to 4. Please refer to our website for policies and more info. www.ofosa.org. Thanks!
What kind of puppy I am looking for a companion dog and can't afford the adoption fees . I have access to all the pet food he'll ever need
Hi there! Thank you for your question. You might try Cat Alliance Team Sanctuary, local veterinarians, Cats in the City or Cat Care Professionals. Best wishes to your friend. Thanks again!
Hi Beth -- thank you for reaching out. We do not happen to need pillows, however, we do use old sheets, towels, and blankets in our crates / kennels when we do intake on the pups. We do not have a physical shelter any more. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. However, we perform the intake of the animals at Barkzone-Bethany (1815 NW 169th Pl #5050, Beaverton, OR 97006) which is where we have the crates / kennels where we can use the items I listed. You can drop these items off at that location and tell them they are for OFOSA. Thank you again for your kindness.
We only rescue cats and dogs. Thanks!
Take a look online. OFOSA continues to have cats and dogs that are rescued from kill/pound, available at Petsmarts in the weekends. I hope you went this weekend. The shelter is 100% foster based and can only rescue as many adoptable pets as foster homes that are available. Maybe consider being a foster yourself. Great way to try a pet first and/ or just save a life.
Hi there Debora! We would suggest contacting a dog trainer to get recommendations. Best of luck!
Sorry, no bunnies.
