The only way to the fort is by ferry, and if it's full you may have to wait a few hours for the next available one. But it is a free tour, and the park rangers are ready to give an engaging history lesson about the fort. I also loved the view of the beach and the island from the fort. If you find yourself in St. Augustine, I recommend making time to see Fort Matanzas.

Excellent National Park. Best to go early to get your free ferry tickets to the island where the fort is located. The Fort is very interesting. The park staff were very knowledgeable. We saw dolphins and birds. The park has some pleasant short hiking trails.

This is my third time visiting. I brought my daughters and in-laws for a fun family outing. We saw all kinds of wildlife. People often do not realize that you can go down to the water where the boat docks while you wait. Fun, free, and educational. And afterwards you can drive across the street and check out the beautiful beach.

Great visit to the Fort Matanzas National Monument! Make sure you arrive early to receive the boat ticket. They have a great nature walk where you will see many types of birds. The ranger on our tour was very friendly and had lots of knowledge about the area biology! After the boat ride to the fort they had a very nice volunteer worker that was doing a nature walk tour which was great we saw many birds including some Roseate spoonbill! I highly recommend anyone visiting the area or any locals who have never been check it out!

Ferry is free during open hours unless there is a storm coming then they close the ferry down
When will the fort be open
The park is
No visitors unless guide is present
Probably, the ferry is free. Said they were closed for the major (Thanksgiving and Christmas per the website) holidays, not the days before and after.
Yes. You can get to it either by the park entrance or go further south to the parkin8lot and go on the boardwalk
Not sure at this moment
The fort itself is currently closed. The beach front associated with the NPS is open. The big fort in the Historic district is open.
Yes
They did a pretty good job when we were there last.
No. The park is currently closed to the public. Officers are at the gates.
Not without you own boat, and trespassing
Boat not running, seems the dock on the fort side is also damaged. It may be awhile.
Yes they let you access the fort. They use to let people camp out there. There is another fort and its doesn't requier a boat. its not free but has more to keep you busy
No, called on Feb 7, 2020. Dock damaged - no estimate on when ferry will be running again.
Should be on a leash all the time
We were there one week ago and ferry was not running
The tour is free, gift shop is not.. you get your tickets from the gift shop attendant. And wait for the park ranger to open the gate they have certain times for the tours which are indicated at the the gift shop. Its a ferry ride to the fort and back.. its a great experience but be careful not to bump your head or drop your phone.
No. This is a national monument. Personal craft are not allowed at their dock.
It's free and the ferry runs on the half hour, you have to get a boarding pass @the visitors center
It should be okay but please remember that it is a building that is trying to be kept preserved.
Definitely an area with 5 or 6 picnic benches, and additional outdoor seating at the parking area (in the middle of the parking loop)
Yes Nick is Right. My favorite restaurant across the Matanzes Inlet Bridge was washed away!
A very nice and informative place to visit. Must also tour the distillery and the brewery.
It was last week don't know for sure now.
There is no Ft. Matanzas fire department. All fire service in the area is provided by St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
Only service dogs are allowed on the ferry. No other pets are permitted (per the NP website).
No, there is no charge. I go all the time. There is a boat ride over to the fort. You can make a donation, if you desire.
Pets can be on the trail and in the rest of the park. They can not go on the ferry when it's running or go into the visiters center.
Probably not. Lookup on website under alerts. You can see fort with binoculars & cellphone camera.
Not sure if it is handicapped accessible but its not running yet.
In the paper they have asked people not to, but there is not anyone over there to stop you
The fort is completely closed until the spring due to damage from Irma.. All you can do is look at it from across the way
Since the Fort is on the other side of the water from the park entrance, you can only see it from a distance without the trip across on a ferry.
Sorry, I don't know
