Muddy in a couple of patches but overall, well maintained trail down to a nice beach. It's a little over a mile so definitely take water and snacks with you. Would be a nice place for a picnic. Have to climb over some logs at the end to get to the actual beach. Beach itself has some tidepooling opportunities at low tide (check the tides!) and a nice long walk along the shore. You can hike past 3rd Beach to Scott's Cove (and further) but that requires climbing up the side of the beach using a rope (see pic) and the trail is super muddy (see other pic) for another 1.25 miles that unless you're really gung-ho about hiking and love mud, stick to 3rd Beach.

Hiked through during our backpacking trip to Scott's Creek. It was beautiful but you might want to wait till low tide to do the hiking so that you can avoid hiking over logs and rock hopping. Any further than the falls and you have to hike a pretty rough overland trail (steep, muddy, and ropes)

The hike was long but well worth it. The beach was sandy and clean. And looked like the beach from planet of the apes. How can anyone not believe in God when standing on that beach? Or while visiting anywhere on the Olympic Peninsula.

Very short and easy trail. It took us 1 hour round trip, but might take longer if you hike at a relaxed pace. The last 5-10 minutes before the beach is steep, but the rest of the trail is flat. The experience of taking a walk in a quiet and dense forest is just inexplicable!

There are signs posted saying no pets, but I saw people with their dogs. Just keep and eye out for eagles if you have a small one.
La Push is closed but trailhead is before you reach La Push
Overnight wilderness permits are required for camping at Third Beach. There is a nominal cost. The NPS may limit how many people are given permits at any one time, but it is an area where permits are generally available even in high usage summer months. Once you have your permit, you pick your own spot along the beach. There not established campsites that can be reserved. More info here:https://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/third-beach-trail.htm
