Beautifully landscaped sidewalk paths to explore the ponds, woods and little sitting places. The back half is dirt trails with decent ascent and descent and a large KS prairie connected to that. Perfect for time outside any season.

This is one of the most magical places I’ve visited. I would return again in a heart beat. Everything is so well kept and organized and labeled for people like me who aren’t the sharpest at plant identification. There are also gorgeous water features which drew me in immediately and I must say it was one of my very favorite experiences here in Kansas City.

Even though it’s freezing out, it was still nice to see everything. It will be much better in the Spring when everything blooms out and the whole place is up and running like normal. The train garden will be neat to see when it’s running.

Our first there and we really enjoyed walking the grounds. Loved the Sculpture Garden, the train track and mini Overland Park set up, the water gardens were amazing. Can't wait to come back in the summer when everything will be in full bloom. We also booked tickets for Terra Luna. Can't wait to see that.

Leashed dogs are allowed everywhere except the concrete paved trails, so there are miles of asphalt and unpaved trails where you can take your pup. It's a great place for a walk with your furry friends!
You must have a permit for portrait photography or videography. Photography and videography permits for portrait or posed purposes are available for $50 per hour. No more than four hours may be reserved by one permit holder per day. Regular admission fees also apply for photographers and all subjects. More info can be found on the park's etiquette web page. https://www.opkansas.org/recreation-fun/arboretum-botanical-gardens/arboretum-etiquette/
$3 for over 13 $1 ages 6-12 Under 5 free Free on Tuesdays Annual membership ranges from $35, $50 or $75 for 1, 2 or family (up to 6 members)
Just use the directions from Google maps! It's in Overland Park, Kansas.
You may bring in food. They have a tea house, but nothing to have an actual meal at. I'd just bring in a cooler with you.
Yes
The trains are run by volunteers who have been trained in the procedures dealing with their set up and maintenance and storage. They sign up for the days and times that they are available. The trains can run all year depending on the weather. They do not run when it is too cold or too hot or windy. Also when it is wet, (ice, rain or snow) . Weekends are usually the best time to see the trains running. There are typically more volunteers available then
Yes - info on website.
Photography is not restricted anywhere in the Arboretum.
Golf cart tours can be arranged in advance no tours on tuesdays. $ 10 per person +$3 admission. The arboretum is open every day but christmas
To my knowledge, there are no cherry trees at Overland Park Arboretum. However, there are many other beautiful blooming trees in the spring to enjoy in many areas.
Train is supposed to operate during the day time. Unfortunately, it was not running the last time we were out. Might call and check with guest relations if that's a key feature for your visit.
Should be fine because they give you a sticker to show you paid for entry
Yes. Most of the main paths are paved and quite accessible.
They take good care of this park . they covered them
For the Luminary Walk yes, normally no
Yes it will. But it will not include some of the features as previous years such as cider and other person interaction things to keep everyone safe.
It is $3 per adult. I didn't pay any money on taking photos. I took tons of photos last time I visited.
Not yet, I was there Friday and leaves aren't changing yet. For fall color, I'd wait a week or two.
Last time I went it was a weekday and the cost was $3 each for adults.
Free on Tuesdays. Other days, adults are $3. Kids ages 6-12 are $1. 5 and under are free
I'd call and ask their policy on that.
It is like a beautiful park with lots of flowers and sculptures ; G scale trains running on 7 different tracks that have bridges and tunnels;a decommissioned caboose that you can go through; picnic tables and benches throughout. There is a children's play area that they can explore and climb on rocks and trees there. There are 3 miles of wooded , mulched trails to walk on that follow along the banks of Wolf Creek. There is a huge Prarie that they have been restoring to its natural look. There are ponds . The big one by the visitors center has giant coy fish as well as catfish, blue Gill and turtles galore. All of these can be seen while walking across a bridge. There is a cafe and gift shop; classroom and small library in the visitors center. A bird blind is set in a clearing in the woods surrounded by bird feeders. There are MANY events going on all time... especially for children. The Hot Summer Days event has all kinds of activities involving water and sprinklers for example
Yes there are benches that are good for 10 years or stones in the Celebration terrace that are permanent. Plus a few other things. Best if you call the arboretum directly . They can give you a list of options
During the Luminary Walk on Friday and Saturday nights for the next 2 weekends starting at 5pm til 9pm
Yes, just need a permit from them if a professional photographer is involved or you are using a lot of equipment for a "shoot".
Sorry, no alcohol is allowed (to be brought in). Only official arboretum events/fundraisers, can offer wine or beer.
We were just there last week and flowers were in full bloom and it was beautiful.
I thought the fee was for professional photographers that set up their lights and screens and blocked the rest of us from walking through there. They sign a set of rules so they stay out of the beds not trample the flowers.
People should to go to the website for these specific types of questions.
Yes dogs on leashes are permitted on the nature trails and blacktop paths but not on the concrete sidewalks.
