Took in a stray to get neutered. They took him right in and I'm waiting to bring him back to the neighborhood. He's a sweet cat but waited to do the right thing. Owner throws him out and we all take care of him. I miss you Ralph! ❤️

The staff work so hard caring for the animals. They get very little credit for the hard work they do. The staff can tell you the names of every animal and the personality of each one. The shelter is exceptionally clean. The staff are so friendly and helpful. If you can't adopt please consider volunteering or being a foster.

Cool people

Absolutely love recommending Prairie Paws to friends and family that are looking to adopt. Especially if they're still uncertain. The process includes a meet & greet in a private room so you can interact with/ get a feel for the pup you are checking out as well as a lifestyle questionnaire to help you get the best match. As far as I can tell, the staff are great at getting to know their tenets so they can answer most, if not all of your questions and address any concerns. I also love the the pups get outdoor group playtime and the staff squeeze in basic command training when they can. All in all 10/10.

Unless the kittens are in immediate danger and are in an unsafe spot, they most likely will not. You can catch the kittens yourself and bring them in to the shelter though. They provide cat traps too, if you can't get them to come to you.
Go up there and talk to them and see what is going on. Or ask the animal control when they put it on your door Very strange for them to do that.
Yes you can they do there best to help all the animals in there care they work hard to find homes for every animal
I adopted my Duckie on January 2nd, the staff was awesome! Try them out you won't be disappointed!
Guessing you'll have to either do a pet store OR research ferret rescues in your area. I had to use a ferret rescue once.
If you're talking about the pink/blue paper collars, those are on for identifying animals name, number, and gender. If they don't have one of those on, the collar either came off and no one's replaced it yet, or the cat may have just gotten there recently. If you mean a real collar, some cats are owner surrendered or brought in as "strays" with them on, or the staff may have put one on for event purposes.
She's not at the shelter. I've been there and there's no long hair chihuahuas.
Grand Prairie doesn’t require animal registration unless it’s for livestock
An application only takes about 10 minutes. They do have to put your info in the system so another 5 minutes. If they animal is fixed they can go home if not they have to say. ALL ANIMALS ARE FIXED BEFORE THEY LEAVE.
I need help bringing my feral colony to spay/neuter clinics.I have trap, but with cats in them I can no longer carry them.I love my babies, but they are multiplying way too fast.I need help, don't want them destroyed. Want them returned, they live here.
You have to have an appointment for SPCA. Take them to prairie paws. They are a no kill shelter. They will be open on Tuesday and you don't need an appointment. Good luck!
You can take the dog to prairie paws or call them. They will check for a microchip. Prairie paws is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.
It is also true that they have nothing to do with TNRs after they release them. So if you have a feral cat colony, don't be surprised if more show up at your area. We have one in our neighborhood that looks to be infected around the incision. We took it over and they wanted nothing to do with it. Wouldnt even look at it
Thank you so much, I alerted them and am hoping for the best
That is always the problem at this facility. I would suggest going in and talking with someone. They never answer the phone there.
They spay or neuter cars and dogs. I don't know what it cost, different for cats and dogs
70 dollars but if u find a paper that is purple I want too say they waive the adoption fee
Just do what's right,And Carry a big Pistol
Absolutely! There's donation bins (for items) and a donation jar (cash/checks) all at the front desk. ☺️
If they got purple tag it means they waived the adoption fee but if not it's 75 dollars, that includes there shots as well
The usual adoption fee is $70, but the fees are always changing due to specials, that can include waived or reduced adoption fees! I would call or visit in person, to confirm how much the specific animal you're interested in cost.
Monkeys are illegal to own in Grand Prairie.
18 years old
Walk to the door and someone can assist you. Also it's weird but if you call and dial 3 the phone will ring and someone will answer. I know its a lot bit its worth it.
It's currently open.
They will take them back.
You have to go in person to fill out an application and pay an amount to adopt
Yes, you can bring a dog to the Incoming Pets door.
My daughter took the dog to a vet and he had an exam and other things, bath, he is flea and tick free.
You can call animal control and they should come get them
You can look on the website to see what dogs they have. The website is gptx.org.
Yes, they do, but you must be a Grand Prairie resident in order to surrender your pet here. As stated before, they are not a no-kill shelter, but that does not mean your pet will have a "few days" long death sentence being surrendered here. Owner surrendered pets go up for adoption IMMEDIATELY and usually find homes faster than strays. Please be sure to fill out a "Pet Personality Profile" if you do bring your dogs here. Every bit of information about them helps them find the perfect new home!
Yesterday I saw them on the website and now I don't see them anymore n it said they were available when I checked at 12:00am
That's the date they'll be put up as "Available" for adoption, unless there's a medical or behavioral reason otherwise. Being up for adoption does NOT always mean they can leave the same day. All adoptable animals must be altered (spayed/neutered) before leaving the building.
Yes they take surrenders
The ones there for a while they find a program or a Foster family for them to go to
You have to take them to the shelter
They are $70
And they will find you the right pet that you feel good with and they will take you into a room so you and the animal can Bond
No, you can't. It's a shelter, not a boarding kennel.
Only with a parents supervision.
No, we do not offer spay and neuter services for the public.
Not currently but once in a while. Check out our available animals on the website regularly to see if we get any :)
$70 and you fill out ad application. You need an id and proof of address
Hi! You will need a current photo ID and will need to fill out paperwork at our shelter. Adoptions are $70.
Adoption is $70 and includes core vaccinations, microchipping and spay/neutering.
If you look on their website, they currently have no beagles available for adoption. You can always check back and see if there's something else to your liking. Adoption fees are $70 and the process can take a while (30+ minutes), depending on how busy the front desk staff is, so it's best to arrive with patience and when you have the time. Here's their website: https://www.gptx.org/city-government/city-departments/animal-services/adoptable-pets
No kill-shelters aren't a real thing. All shelters will euthanize an animal due to behavioral or health problems. This is a municipal/city shelter and they do the same as any other shelter.
$70 and that includes vaccine's, a microchip implant, and the animal being altered. (Spayed/neutered/ If the price is lower, that may be due to a special/event that is going on, or the fee may be waived if the animal has been there a long time.
No. They are $70 unless they are having a special and that includes shops then being fixed and microchip
Just call them they always need help. I think the age has to be 18.
It depends on what dog you're meeting. They're all unique individuals, with their own appearance and personality. If you'd like to see available dogs, please visit their website at: https://www.gptx.org/city-government/city-departments/animal-services/adoptable-pets
Just go to the front desk and they'll be able to assist you in getting a recycle bin. Make sure to bring your ID or proof that you live in GP, otherwise you'll have to go elsewhere.
It depends. They have a lot of things to check off. Check aggressiveness Health wellness checks. Neuter/spray procedure. Bathing. Then they can take a picture and submit to the socal media person to post.
Not without adult company, no.
Yes
The animals are now considered yours since you’ve had them so long. You can owner surrender them but understand that they aren’t a no kill shelter and the possibility of them getting euthanized is still there.
Not a no kill but the ladies at the front will tell you if you ask. It’s a city run shelter and no city run shelter is no kill. Pls get educated and don’t speak about what you don’t know. They clearly care about their animals if you actually watch them interact with them.
No, part off having an animal is taking it to the vet often. If you follow this rule of life they can refer you to a clinic.
You can always go to the dog park. It stresses the animals to be taken out of their cages for nothing. Don’t get their hopes up or waste the staffs time.
Closed on Mondays Tue-fri 10 am -6pm Sat 12-6pm Closed Sundays
Just because it’s a full shelter doesn’t mean they will adopt to everyone. The animals need to go to good homes and a good home wouldn’t have any problem with verification. They just want to make sure the pet won’t be back and will get the love it deserves
It's not a public vet office. You'll have to arrange that service with a private veterinarian's practice. Prairie paws has an on site vet services for the animals that they plan to rehabilitate for adoption.
No. It is open to the public for adoptions.
Yes you can.
You must live in Grand Prairie to bring him here, other ways you have to surrender him to your local Shelter,or just call and they will pick him up !
They have a few German Shepard mixes up for adoption right now, if you're still looking.
Go on to the website they will show each and every dog
Why you are surrendering, how long you've had the pup, and sign some papers and done. When i surrendered one the lady was mean, rude and disrespectful - just a heads up on that aspect of it
It is not but the success rate is pretty high. They are close to being no kill
You can do everything online and just sign up to volunteer. The process is super easy
Yes they do! I have purchased a beautiful puppy here before!
