Wow wow wow! Loved it! We don't have this in Hawaii...I was blown away by how massive it was. It had many things you could interact with and the staff was friendly. I would recommend doing everything ( $20 out of state) loved it will be back

Do not miss the butterfly garden if you are in Gainesville! It is inside the Florida natural history museum and is beautifully maintained by the staff. The garden is an enclosed space with hundreds of different butterfly species and is hardly a 5minutes walk inside. But you will surely take your time to observe these butterflies with their beautiful patterns and texture!

The sanctuary was beautiful, and there were hundreds of types of butterflies. There were also Chinese quail, the smallest quail in the world! I was also lucky enough to be right in front of the one diamondback dove in the sanctuary, who is apparently never seen. Very cool experience and highly recommend!

I loved it. It's a beautiful place and although it's a little small I could've spent all day there watching the butterflies. I saw so many that I've never seen before!

Yes....but I would call first! It's amazing...have fun!!
Absolutely! And the free museum that is included is great. They will love it.
It's not required, but you can if you want, or not..
Hi Mariana--the Florida Museum and our Butterfly Rainforest exhibit are open normal hours today!
Yes, we are open 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Last admission is 4:30 p.m. Please visit www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/visit for this and more information.
Hello, The Florida Museum Butterfly Rainforest exhibit doesn’t allow tripods or monopods except during special photography workshops. Registration is open for the next workshop to be held April 14. More information is available on our website: https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/event/photo-workshop/
Both in and out. Like Deborah said, the butterflies are in a screened in enclosure, but the museum is indoors.
Yes. Their hours might differ, but they are open.
The Butterfly Rainforest exhibit is definitely open today! We usually announce closures due to weather on our site and social media, and you can always call our front desk to double check at 352-846-2000. Thanks!
I'm not sure. I'm sure you could call and ask. You won't regret going there!!!
There was nothing in the gift shop to my knowledge.
We didn't see any inside the exhibit but there were some inside a lab. The lab is part of the museum not the exhibit. There were all stages of the metamorphosis cycle on display behind a giant lab window
Hi Audrey - Here's a link to our lepidopterists. You could start with contacting Jaret Daniels, Akito Kawahara or Andrei Sourakov: https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/mcguire/directory/
Yes. Beautiful stuff to take home
Yes, they do. They are required to stay in the strollers but the strollers cannot go into the butterfly rainforest. If you want to dog to go into the rainforest it needs to be on a lease
Butterfly rainforest fee is $14 for adults or $12 Florida resident. The museum fee is free. Food is not available inside but there are many places to eat in the surrounding areas
It's free to UF students. There is no charge to park
It's free if you have a membership to the museum. But the membership is only worth it if you go often. Otherwise it's around 7-10 dollars per person
Yes, It's an enclosed area that is attached to different Museum.
Hi Patricia, A limited number of courtesy manual wheelchairs are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Request a wheelchair at the Visitor Services Desk at the front entrance. More info: https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/visit/accessibility/
The museum itself is air conditioned, but the butterfly rainforest is outside in a screened area. The rainforest area isn't super large and if it gets too hot you can go back into the museum, they have a lot of interesting stuff to check out.
Yes. We used one for my wife who had just had ankle surgery. The butterfly area is a little challenging but we enjoyed it immensly.
Its an indoor place. Wonderful!

Hi M.B., As others have mentioned, there isn't a specific feeding time. The nectar plants and fruit trays for the fruit-feeding species are always available. The butterfly release occurs at 2 p.m. weekdays and 2, 3 and 4 p.m. on weekends, weather permitting.
Yes it is and it is inside the museum of natural history.
Emilee is correct. The butterflies are free to fly within the enclosure and they can land on you, fly around you, or land on the plants. There is nothing separating you from them.
Don't miss this place! You will enjoy your visit a lot!
General admission to the Florida Museum of Natural History is free. There is a charge for featured exhibits, currently "Bats," and for the "Butterfly Rainforest." No stairs; all ADA accessible pathways. It does go downhill when you enter and back uphill towards the exit. We're always glad to help anyone who may have trouble on the uphill portion as it can be steep for some people in wheelchairs or with walkers!
Yes
Wheelchairs are available. Please ask a visitor services representative at the front desk of the Museum when you arrive.
The Florida Museum and Butterfly Rainforest 🦋 exhibit do not have a restaurant, but the Harn Museum of Art next door does. The Camelia Court Cafe can be accessed from the sidewalk between the two museums and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Please note it is closed on Mondays.
Museum inside butterflies outside in an enclosure.❤beautiful worth the trip❤
You best option: From the Museum parking lot, turn left/west on Hull Road and cross over SW 34th street. Buses/RV should park in back of the large UF Park & Ride lot to the right/north of the Hilton Conference Center. Do not park in the hotel parking lot.
I know the school was open today. Call and see. They've always been helpful.
10am - 5pm monday-saturday and 1pm-5pm sundays
