Absolutely terrible single legally disabled mother extremely minimum income young child have called emailed throughout the years I am always told there is no assistance available for me it has been many years of couch surfing and extreme housing insecurity everyone I have spoken to at the DuPage county housing authority told me unfortunately that's the way it is there's no help available to me or my child even though we would definitely qualify they told me to call local shelters and DuPage pads it's been 13 years and not once have they referred me to any other organization unbearable situations

First time in there. The people administering the program are very nice. I just can't believe the wait-list thing. Of course, I don't know everyone's situation, but my encouragement to those in the program is to make use of the help rendered and move on. Many people need help...

My overall experience with duPage County Housing Authority and living in DuPage County is not too bad but not ok. First of all there are barely any locations that you can get into housing with if you don’t have three times the rent and credit score over 650. Credit score is acceptable as wherever you go will require a pretty good score but three times the rent and having to go through a Housing Authority is almost impossible. If you are on a voucher start looking immediately when you know you are on the list because you’ll get passed up if you don’t find anything before your deadline, you have to stay in Dupage county now for 1 year before porting out. It is very very hard finding housing that is nice and affordable in DuPage County. Not all this is my experience but also experience from people whom is on the voucher program. If you have any helpful comments please share

Look into bluestem low income housing, a waitlist is suppose to open tommorow for permanant supportive housing in lombard and villapark, look into trinity they built a new building in northlake il
DuPage Housing Authority does not offer public housing so if you need an affordable housing option it must come from the State of Illinois or from a private provider of subsidized housing. There is a listing of those subsidized units in many communities in the state available at IHDA.org under the rental housing link. DuPage Housing Authority only administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program and the first step is to apply for the waiting whenever it opens for new applications. The next opening is actually Tuesday March 5th at 10am Central Time. We have information right now how to make application on our website at DuPageHousing.org. Then on Tuesday March 5th starting at 10am you will be able to fill out an application to hopefully make it on the waiting list. There are only 1,500 positions available so once those slots are filled the waiting list will close. Good luck!
Ms. Mason, DuPage Housing Authority appreciates your eagerness to help but we would rather you allow the Housing Authority answer questions for and about the Housing Authority or it’s programs. Your response was not not correct on a couple of points.
There is no housing in DuPage County owned by DuPage Housing Authority so we cannot assist anyone with a public housing option. We administer the Housing Choice Voucher program that you must typically be on a waiting list for your position on that list to reach the top - which can take years.
Looking for housing in Dupage county 1 or 2 bedroom anybody . Please help!
DuPage Housing Authority administers the federally funded Housing Choice Voucher program within DuPage County and there is no public housing. DHA is not the "expert source" to answer that question outside of how it pertains to HCV program participants. For HCV participants the search for units typically takes between 30-120 days with smaller 1-2 BR units at 30-60 days and 3BR units and larger 90-120 days.
Ms. Patton, DHA does not understand why you are making these statements out of context to make it seem as if your situation is somehow caused by DHA not inspecting your unit for 2 years. While your statements are totally false, DHA will not debate you on social media on what actually happened.
Thanks for the question but unfortunately that is not our area of expertise. That is a legal question that you probably should ask of a lawyer.
While some Housing Authorities may, DuPage Housing Authority does not have an age requirement to apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Program or to occupy a position on the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list. Eligibility is determined after selection from the list and at that time you must be at least of the age of consent, and can legally sign a lease agreement with a landlord.
There really is no way to tell because there are just too many factors. The list opens tomorrow morning at 10am to add 1,500 new applications. The last time the list was opened was in June 2016 when we added 1,800 applications. The time before that was September 2010 when 4,500 applications were added. Our plan it to open the list more often - about every 3 years - and add fewer applications each time - no more than 1,500.
You MAY be able to pay the additional amount. When you are moving into a subsidized unit for the first time, if the rent plus utilities for the unit is higher than the amount the voucher pays (Payment Standard), you must pay 30% but no more than 40% of your monthly adjusted income towards the rent. As an easy example: Lets say 30% of your monthly adjusted income is calculated at $300 and 40% is $400. You find a unit with rent plus utilities that is more than your voucher can pay. As long as the additional amount out of your pocket is not more than $400 in this example, you can rent the unit. This specific information is on your moving papers on the Rent Burden Worksheet. It gives you the rang of rent you are allowed to pay between 30% and 40% based on your household income.
Due to HUD budget cuts, the DHA needed to implement changes to reduce the impact and continue to serve as many families as possible. One of the changes is the reduction in bedroom unit size. We strive to serve as many people in DuPage County as we possibly can.
I don't know... But complain, take pictures, and do what you can to better your situation.
Ms Traviss I assume that when you are talking about applying for “Section 8” you mean the Housing Choice Voucher program. This is the replacement for Section 8 that happened 20 years ago. Unfortunately the voucher program waiting list opened and closed on May 10, 2022 and won’t open again for new applications for at least another 2-3 years. We will be be opening some of the senior housing waiting list in buildings in DuPage County in the next 30-60 days so please visit our website at https://www.dupagehousing.org to look for information about those openings. We plan to post information soon.
Maybe you can get help from local townships, or catholic charities
Socialserve.com and gosection8.com but it's now affordable homes
The Cook County waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher program is opening soon so check their website for specific information. The DuPage waiting list is not opening for new applications for at least the next 18 months or so.
That is a question best answered by the Housing Authority of DeKalb County. That county is outside of this jurisdiction.
Dupagehousing.org click on "Applicant Cafe" Login and update your information.
No! The Housing Choice Voucher Program is not emergency housing or even urgent housing. Emergency housing is usually a shelter. In DuPage County the major shelter provider is DuPage PADS.
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to assist you at this time. Our waiting list for rental Vouchers is closed for at least the next 2-3 years.
I know of one in streamwood il. A town house. I believe its 1500
The waiting list is currently closed.
Unfortunately you must first be on the waiting list before you can be considered for the Housing Choice Voucher Program and that waiting list is currently closed for any new applications.
Once you have made the decision to port your voucher your current housing authority must send your paperwork to our office. Once they confirm your information as been sent, you should contact our Portability Coordinator to set up a briefing to receive DHA moving papers. All information regarding portability is on our website, https://www.dupagehousing.org/dupage-portability.
It was just opened on Tuesday March 5, 2019. Unfortunately, we don’t expect it to open again for 2-3 years.
The website is experiencing thousands of attempts to apply at one time so you need to keep trying to get through to apply at www.DuPageHousing.org.
If you forgot password click the Forgot Password link and a new password will be sent. Because there is an extremely large number of people across the US trying to access the site all at the same time, many of whom are asking for a new password, it may take several tries to get through...
Our voucher program waiting list opens this morning at 10am. This is an online application process only and I would suggest that you go to our website at www.DuPageHousing.org to get information on how to apply.
Ms. Green, DuPage Housing Authority does not have public housing and only has the Housing Choice Voucher Program. You must be on the waiting list to have a chance for a voucher and fortunately our waiting list opens tomorrow morning at 10am for Applications. Please check our website: DuPageHousing.org ASAP to get the information you need to know how to apply. Good luck!
Don't think so. They have a waiting list that takes years to get the housing voucher. They do have a list of apt's you could get but that's about it. my apologies to dupage Housing Authority when I said I don't think so I would have thought it would be understood that it was just an educated guess not written in stone also I did recommend that Colleen could go and get an apt list and at that time ask dha anything she needed to know. So once again my apologies to Colleen and DHA for my ignorance
Ms. Gallo - We assume you are asking about the pre-application for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. That waiting list opens on Tuesday March 5, 2019. The pre-application will be available on the DHA website on that day starting at 10 A.M. Central - www.DuPageHousing.org.
All information regarding portability is on our website, http://www.dupagehousing.org/tenants/portability/ Including a list of payment standards listed by zip code: http://www.dupagehousing.org/participants/payment-standards/
Ms. Howell- DuPage Housing Authority administers the tenant based Housing Choice Voucher program (HCV)...where a housing subsidy is issued to an individual to rent from a private property owner. There are also a smaller number of project-based housing subsidies we administer, mostly serving seniors, where the subsidy is assigned to a specific property or unit. Currently the waiting list for both of these programs is closed with the tenant based waiting list opening in March 2019. You are encouraged to visit our website at www.DuPageHousing.org starting in mid/January 2019 for application information.
No.. You are still a family of one. You have to violate the rules of the voucher to lose it. No worries
We hope to serve our current wait list within this year and open by Spring 2019 (February, March, April), depending on our funding. No specific time can be given now, as so many factors affect how quickly we can serve the current applicants on our current wait list so that we may open again. Our timelines are dependent on funding and the number of people, who we are currently serving, become self-sufficient or exit the program. When we do open again for applications we will post a public notice in the local paper, reach out to local agencies and post on our website to ensure the opening is made public.
Any applicants on the list with more qualifying preferences will move ahead of you, so your position drops as they update their waiting list applications.
List position is based on eligible preferences first, then date and time of application. As applicants update their application information by adding or removing eligible preferences they qualify for, any applicants with fewer preferences move down. As applicants above are served, applicants below move up. Applicants are served when their position reaches the top of the list. It’s difficult to say what number an applicant must be to get served because DHA typically calls 30 to 100 applicants off the list at a time...but not always.
No date has been set at this time but expected to open during 2019.
Frank - the answer from Rina is not correct!!! The actual answer to your question is since the lease is a legal document only between a landlord and their tenant, any early exit from a lease is between that landlord and that tenant, DHA has no say at all in the terms since we are not a party to the lease. Of course if the tenant expects to move with their voucher to another unit, DHA would have to receive a copy of the early release signed by both the landlord and their tenant.
Tonya, unfortunately there is no public housing option in DuPage County. Also, as the Housing Authority we do not have urgent or emergency housing options either. There is no easy option and likely no option that does not involve a wait. Sorry there is no better news...
If you are homeless or in need of housing resources: Please call, 1-800-942-9412, or visit www.dupagecris.org These resources were found through the DuPage County Website at www.dupageco.org
Yes they do.
Hi Shyvone, A 2 bedroom voucher in DuPage County is$1232.00
I am looking for a senior hud apartment in dupage county
DuPage Housing AUthority, is only billing right now for their section 8. If you have section 8 already from another office they will accept it but your office your section 8 voucher is at will have to pay for you to live out here in Dupage County..... They are only billing at this time....
The complex called Hinsdale Lake Terrace Apartments and Toenhomes take section 8... Its a complex call Willowbrook apartments off 67th Cass Ave, Darien, IL accept low income.... Look into them two places.
This is a DuPage County government question, not a question for the DuPage Housing Authority - a totally separate, unrelated entity.
This agency administers the federally funded Housing Choice Voucher program. To take advantage of the program you must be selected from the wait list (currently CLOSED), determined eligible and lease a qualifying unit in the private market. There is no public housing option in DuPage County.
York place Apartments 641 S. York rd Bensenville They take the Voucher
