Half day is completely fine. It is a decent size zoo but not a all day venture. If you choose to do the cool zoo portion (the kids waterpark/lazy river), 5 or 6 hours would be more realistic.

There is a lazy river, it's my daughter's favorite part. The cool zoo costs an additional 12$ for non members and 10$ for members, but the best deal is called the "pop" pass it is an additional 14 for non members and 12 for members, and it gets you access to cool zoo, unlimited train access (it's a big zoo) and unlimited carousel rides!! There is a free splash fountain at monkey hill if you Just want to cool down and not pay extra!

The zoo will take about 4-5 hours of done at a leisure pace not really including mealtime if you so choose. The aquarium will take about 2-3 hours. Although they are close a technical close distance to each other, it is quite difficult to travel between the two because of parking and traffic. 2 days would probably be best. After the zoo you're close to Magazine and the shops and eateries that are there. After the aquarium you're right outside the French Quarter and all that jazz. My experiences come from going with my wife and 4 kids. Hope this is helpful.

Im sure slip n' slides will be fine, but for anything large that would be rented from a party supply company I believe you would have to confer with Audubon Park staff. Especially since a larger slide would require a water connection and possibly power connections too.

No they don't have low income discounts. However, if you're going to buy a ticket the Audubon Adventure is the best value. You get the Zoo, the 4D theater, the Insectarium, and Butterfly house all for just a few dollars more. And you don't have to do all of them the same day. So you can really spend quality time at each venue.
