The first year I went to the consulate in NY was 1999.
At that time the service was not good. Not because of the other employees, but because of a blonde with short hair. She was very rude. I remember that in 2001 I went there with my husband and daughter. At that time she was 4 months old.
There were many babies there and the consul let us stay in an adjoining room so that the mothers could be more comfortable with the babies. There were several Americans in this room, including my husband. “This blonde walked into this room and started yelling at everyone in Portuguese and told us to get out of there.
I was embarrassed… then someone said that the consul told us to stay there. After that I went back there a few times and the blonde was still there…
Last year I had to go to the consulate and thank God the “blonde” was there for us. All the staff were polite and the service was quick and hassle free.

Call Hospital das Clinicas, sp, but the deadline ended yesterday, but if you want to take private clinics. But, I was aware that out of every 5 people, only 1 got vaccinated, if you did not come to the risk area, you do not have to worry so much. Be careful, of course !!!

To apply for a brazilian visa you will need:
Go on their website and fill out the online application. Print out receipt that you receive once complete application.
Bring confirmation receipt, valid passport, trip itinerary, money order for $160 from United states post office,(they do not accept cash, check, debit/credit cards. They can tell you who to make it out to once you're there), 1 2x2 passport photo which can be taken at cvs or walgreens.
I went on a Wednesday at 1145am and was out by 1240pm bc I came prepared with all these documents. I got my visa that day. If you dont come with all the documents that the website tells you which also I mentioned above...you could have a frustrating experience. Meanwhile, I was in and out no problem. It's good to go early as they stop doing visas at 2pm
I have just spoken with Projeto Mantena and they told me that the next itinerant consulate in Newark will be on a Thursday in April 2018, the date is not yet confirmed.

In order to own a home in Brazil, you'll first have to establish a CPF number. It doesn't mean that you have to reside there, it's so they can tax you if you decide to rent or flip the property. Once that is taken care of, there is a procedure that will require you to provide power of attourney to those you wish to handle it. Getting things done in Brazil is a waiting game with a lot of paperwork and red tape. You'll have to translate all your IDs, documents, certificates, etc. There are cartorios that take care of all that there, as does the consulate here in the US. The consulate site is probably somewhere you can find good info, or on some expat forums, where Americans are living abroad. Good luck to you.

You will need to go to the consulate and they can check your CPF in the recipe and thus issue a new passport. Rules always change so I can not tell you if they will. But go to the consulate and get more precise information that can help.

I'm not sure. I'm American, my wife is Brazilian. I was previously married. She wanted to renew her passport, so first we needed an updated birth certificate sent from Brazil. It needed to be less than 6 months old, otherwise we couldn't use it.
Also we needed our marriage certificate modified by the boro hall of Staten Island where we were married, then we needed to go to two addresses in Manhattan to have the marriage certificate amended for international use.
Finally, I needed a notarized letter from the consulate stating that I'd never been married to a Brazilian before, and lastly, I needed brand new stamped copies of my divorce decrees. Then after ALL of that, on the 4th visit to the consulate, my wife got a renewed passport!
I find NY parking lots very expensive, one option is to go to Newark, there is a parking lot in front of Penn Station, you pay 21 dollars, give the correct time to go by train and back. The Consulate is very close to Penn Station NY, you can walk.

The exemption from import taxes automatically exists when the Brazilian spends a period longer than 12 months outside the country. The Consulate does not issue such declarations. The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service accesses the Federal Police database in real time and knows when the citizen fulfills the requirement for exemption.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to make a power of attorney at the consulate itself for a person you trust in Brazil to act as if it were you and file the divorce petition, either by your own means or with the help of a lawyer.
