While I think employees should be kind and respectful to all customers who are also kind and respectful. You're talking about a fast food joint not a Michelin rated restaurant. The reason they are always hiring is because all fast food places are always hiring. The industry isn't the best place to work. It's low paying, customers are often rude and the work is mundane. People are people no matter where they work. People have good and bad days. It is probably a good thing you won't be going back to the store. I doubt after you decided to temporarily become a member of DQ management and inform them "theyre working not talking here", that their mood towards you would improve. My advice. Kindness and minding your business. Smile, use yes ma'am and yes sir, please and thank you. I'm on my mid 30s with a professional well paying job and I do everything I just said. Doesn't master if it's the 17 year old at a DQ drive through, a bagger at the grocery store or one of my clients.
