There are two security check points, one at the boat dock and one going to the parks. You only get checked at one but not the other. If you walk and skip the boat, you're checked before getting into the parks.

I'm not 100% sure about Open Mic Night, but they did have live music at the pool. It may be a contract thing, I'd call for sure. And they do have a pool side bar with drinks and food, a little snack shop with yummy ice cream, and a couple of restaurants!
