Hiked in off of the PCT. Close to a mini mart with lots of snacks, cold beer, and the park had free hot showers! Bathrooms are clean. Camp host let me charge my phone and gave me snacks. Camped in the PCT hiker camp, only $5. Staff was awesome. Took free bus to Shasta for the day. This place is awesome for hikers!

Enjoyed the view tremendously. A bit scary driving up or down to the vista view and meeting another vehicle. Beautiful picture of Mt Shasta and Castle Crag.

Been driving by here my whole life, and finally stopped. It was worth the drive in, and the short hike to see the crags. Be courteous on the one lane road, and notice how it seems wider on the way out (haha).

Absolutely beautiful here. We took the Indian springs trail and the springs are NOT worth it but the views on that cutoff are absolutely stunning. I don't have a picture of it on my phone, but it is gorgeous.

You don’t pay to hike. You pay to park within park and road. Otherwise park your car somewhere and walk in.
It's difficult to see what does not exist
As of mid September 2021, the showers are open
water proof shoes would be nice, i went in may and it was still a few feet of snow. however, make sure you know where the trail is, it can get hard to see where you have to go if theres a lot of snow.
I parked in front of the ranger station which is just down to the left of the parking area for the Castle crags but no the parking lot was not open when I went
there are hooks in a rock cliff about 2/3 of the way up the dome trail, after the indian springs turnoff. i saw someone do it a year ago and i think its called pin cushion cliff
During the off season yes
I have Verizon also and it works in most of the campground it does delay a little bit some places
No amimals allowed on trails, pets on leash in camground area st all times
Not sure. I would call them, they were quite friendly and helpful.
Yes, there is a great short one to a beautiful lookout off the parking lot. There is a longer one that goes quite a distance but doesn't really have an ending point, just a turn around sign for wheel chairs. There is a fee paying ranger station that gives you info and a trail map when you arrive.
Its pronounced "castle crags"
When you get off the freeway and head to the campground, once you're there, ahhh, quiet. Except for the train whistle which actually is kinda cool.
Dogs are allowed on some trails but must be on a leash. I would think as long as you comply with leash laws you wont have any trouble. Be careful of poisen Ivy and wild mushrooms.
There is a rock formation that looks castle-like at the park.
