I have loved visiting Fort Monroe over the years. We have watched it evolve from an Active Army base to the beautiful civilian destination it is now. You must visit the new Welcome Center. Their are wonderful resources to make the most of your visit. There's a Museum located inside the moat, don't miss it! And, of course, beautiful beaches!

If you love history then this place is for you. Fort Monroe is the largest fort built in the US. Take a walk through history at Fort Monroe. Entry is FREE. Casemate museum is located within the Fort's walls. I also visited Old point Comfort Lighthouse. There is a nice boardwalk at the periphery of the fort.

So much fun! Go visit Freedoms Fortress! Fort Monroe is a stone structure fort and is accessible through the loan gates. The Casement Museum was closed (due to MLK Day), but the rest of the fort was great. There is a walking tour, be prepared to walk everywhere on the fort and the walking trail continues outside. Visit the Old Comfort Lighthouse and the designated plaques of the fort Africans to America. There are designated parking spaces and Fort Monroe is free!

And also they have a camping ground there too.
There is an RV park there, so with the proper arrangements, yes you could.
I would think not due to old ordnance being around, call them.
It is classified as a national park. It is open to the public. However be aware that all the historic homes were sold to private buyers so people live there all around the park. Parking can be difficult especially on nice weekends. If you're looking to stay over night that would have to happen on the local economy. But we've spent time with extended family here looking at the museum and monuments. It will depend on what you want it of your retreat. If you're wanting covered pavilions and space for a large gathering, you may be better off with Newport news park or something like that. If you're wanting a nice way to spend the day with a small group with some nice spots for pictures this will work. I hope this helps.
Yes, however across the top of the casemate there are a few batteries that maybe rough to navigate.
No
About two hours in the Hampton heat is all most people can handle.
Yeah not sure but there are plenty of hotels in the area i know it's not the same but make it a weekend get away and have fun...
Crowne Plaza no longer runs the Marina hotel. It is now the Hampton Marina Plaza. It is also currently open but under going major renovations.
Don't know if there is a kitchen attached but you can give them a call at 757- 690 - 8061. Hope this helps!
Pacific Ocean club, they have everything you look for.
The best hotels/motels close to Ft. Monroe are in Hampton and across the bridge in Norfolk. Not more than 15 minutes away. Prices vary greatly by season.
I think have have a picture of the Fire Station on my review. It is currently the Fire House Coffee Shop now.
Yes there is...I have friends that bought there. There is a website for availability
Yes
A Lyft/Uber ride is the best way. Won't cost much.
No, it's free. The Casement Museum is also free. It's anice place to walk with some great virws of the Bay.
I believe Norfolk naval station is considered an open post. You can go to a gate and w proper valid ID and sometimes a vehicle search you can get in. Battleship row is pretty awesome.
The camp ground is the first left coming onto the base, go all the way down till you see the water, then left keep going till you see campers. Haea general store also
