Fort Monroe National Monument - All questions

Address: Fort Monroe, VA 23651, USA

Michael McGrath | Jan 21, 2019

I would think not due to old ordnance being around, call them.

Lee Brown | Jan 21, 2019

No. Local authorities will stop you. Really cool if u could.

Uncertain. For best knowledge, contact Fort Monroe Authority. The island has joint ownership. The state of Virginia and Department of Interior. Hope this helps.

The only place to metal detect legally in Virginia is in National Forests or on private property. Technically it's illegal to metal detect VA Beach but they don't bother you if you do it.

Paul Durand | Jan 21, 2019

Probably not since there are munitions still buried. Fort Monroe authority is who should ask

Loren Lovitt | Jan 21, 2019

I don't believe you can metal detect 😕

Johnny Gaines | Jan 21, 2019

If not sure on that one. I agree with Michael on the old ordnance thing. Don't want to set anything off mistakenly

Laura Cushing | Jan 21, 2019

I'd agree, most likely not, they have signs everywhere stating anything found must be turned in to the offices since it was a weapons area at one time

Hitech | Jan 21, 2019

Buckroe beach allows it. Check with the Rangers office locater at the EXIT of the museum.

When I was stationed here as an MP we had to stop people from detecting. There's everything from old musketballs to unknown ordinances in some areas.
