We always run out of energy before we run out of exhibits or activities to enjoy! Still want to see the old jail and old church- but loved the cabin and saw mill and Chinese outdoor exhibits. Loved panning for gold in the river! "Hands and pans only", as we watch the intertubers from up the river pass by... Very fun!

There is a park fee of $10.00 per car. We also have gold panning available for $8.00 per person and a guided walking tour for $30.00 per adults and $2.00 per child. We also offer a Junior Ranger program which is free. You can pick the booklet up at the museum and it is a great way to self guide through the park.

Marshall Gold | Sep 18, 2019

Yes we have a panning beach along the river that you can bring your own gold pan and pan in the river during park hours. This is a hands and pans only area which means no shovels, metal detectors or any other tools. We also have panning lessons in our troughs and do lessons everyday on the hour between 10:00am-4:00pm. The cost is $7.00 per person and you get a vial to keep what you find in it to take home. On hot days please call ahead to our museum at (530) 622-3069 as sometimes we close up early due to extreme heat.

Why are paid visitors required to ask each docent that they photograph for permission to put their picture on social media? The CA State Park website encourages the public to photograph events for publicity.

Gold Pan Biscuits | Sep 18, 2019
Seven Stars | Sep 17, 2020

The docents sign a photo release to volunteer there. The parks stay open because of visitors, and get free publicity through social media. As long as they are in a public place, filming and posting on social media is encouraged.
