This hike was beautiful, however I would not advise it to the inexperienced! Breathtaking view and %100 worth it if you can make it!

Just a great area. Parking can be challenging on the weekends. Awesome photo ops.

I have done this trail twice. It is great. Family friendly. Neither times did I find a restroom. Make sure to bring plenty of water as it is a way up. Coming down is faster. Great views friendly hikers.

If you wanna be rewarded with a great view after a strenuous hike this place is one of them. They have a easy way up to the cliff (Fire Road) and the difficult one(Appalachian trail). We took Appalachian and it was a bit challenging as we wanted it to be. It was Dec 31st 2021 at 12 pm the VA 311 parking was full but people who came early were gradually leaving and luckily found a spot in no time. The cliff gets cold once you are up there so bring something warm. It was a great way for me to mark my year end.

Questions & Answers

If the parking lot is full, where do we park?

There is an empty lot about 100 yards going downhill the main road, on side across the street from parking lot. Dirt road trail, that's where I parked, safe from tow there.

Can you camp up there?

Yes. In certain sections. There are fire pits to grill on if you need them.

I'll probably hike on a Tuesday morning. Will others be hiking as well generally?

We hiked on a Thursday around noon, and were lucky to find a parking space. Week day peak times seem to still be pretty busy, so maybe plan on an earlier or later hike. The area was almost cleared out by the time we got back at 5pm. Please bring headlamps or flashlights if you plan on starting later though. It's a very long hike there and back and you don't want to get stuck on the trail without light.

Like others have said, use the fire road route in the dark. The last mile or so will still be on the AT. Make sure you have good lights for that section.
