If I could give this place a lower rating I would. I adopted a beautiful chihuahua pomeranian mix name Queen. Before I adopted her I asked them is she up to date on all her shots especially the parvo shot. The employee that was helping me said yes she is up to date on all her shots for a full year. They failed to tell me you had to give them 3 parvo shots as they were puppies. And because they failed to tell me that my dog ended up getting parvo after she just hit a year old before I could get her another round of shots from her turning a year old. Well because they failed to tell me, when my dog caught parvo she did not make it through this evil sickness. And she passed away you guys failed to tell me everything that I needed to know and I ended up losing my friend/family member because you guys failed to tell me what I needed to know.

We had a horrible experience here. First off, the volunteer working with us clearly didn't want us to adopt. She kept trying to find ANY reason to deny our application. She refused to let us see the kittens and ignored the age range we were looking for. Lastly, she then tried to sell us a cat with FIV. That was the last straw. These people are condescending and don't think we were good enough for the cats. I would never recommend this shelter to anyone. Please look elsewhere for a cat. EDIT: The reason you can't find anything is because "kaiser" is not my real name.

I brought our 20 month old nervous, high energy pup to visit with Jamie from the training department. We felt our pup needed some additional training that wasn't obedience based, to help her overcome her fear of the environment (truck noises, lawn mowers, fast moving bicycles, crowds, etc.) and to help us understand her nervous pacing that she has done since we adopted her. Our pup has already been through some obedience training, but she is afraid of people who want to greet and pet her. For her, it is the environmental things that scare her. Jamie took time to do an evaluation of our dog. She asked what we were hoping to get out of training, what she had done already for training and how she could help our rescued pup. Since we visited with Jamie and started the recommended training exercises for our dog, we are beginning to see our dog voluntarily calm herself down sooner and there is less pacing happening at our home. Our pups life is changing for the better every day. Thanks to the training department for all of the assistance!

I was rejected from adopting a dog from Paws of Lincoln Park even though I have 2 dogs I adopted there that I’ve had for 8 years! That rejection lead me to The Hinsdale Humane Society where I was able to fill out the application online and go in and check out a few dogs I was interested in! That day I left with Vino, he was a casualty of floods in the south and was transported from Texas to Hinsdale! What a blessing in disguise that Paws said no and fate lead me to adopt Vino, a Jack Russell Terrier! Thank you HHS for the great service you provide to save animals, great fur friends are waiting for a home and I’m glad I could help!

Hi @K Love, and thank you for asking! Yes, we do offer opportunities for 8-13 year old children to volunteer without parental supervision. Parents are required to attend training, but after that, kids attend without parents. Check out more info at this link: https://www.hinsdalehumanesociety.org/programs/humane-education/compassionate-kids-corps
So sorry,,you will find another,,I did!!
What volunteer positions do you have.
Thank you. I just found Greater Chicago cage bird society rescue.
Hi Albert, we do not give shots unless they are animals waiting for adoption. If you are looking for low cost options, we would recommend you consider Spay Illinois or Anti Cruelty Society in Chicago.
Hi Dorothy - Thank you for asking. We can always donate the fish cat food to our food pantry if/when we receive it, but we do not use it with our animals because we like to stick with one main protein source so their digestive systems remain consistent during their stay with us. As for the litter, when kittens eat it, it can form obstructions and we do not want them stuck in a cage with their litter where they may play with and swallow it. We appreciate you checking in!
I believe they do for the dogs
Staff is onsite taking care of the animals, so please just ring the doorbell when you arrive and someone will get to you (sometimes it takes a minute for someone to get to the door). Thank you so much!
Not at all! We adopt to people from all over the area and even out of state. Thank you for asking!
We are hosting a low-cost spay/neuter clinic on Saturday, 9/18 in conjunction with Clear the Shelters and our Pitties & Kitties special. Here is the link. Thank you for asking! https://calendly.com/hinsdale-humane-society/pitties-kitties-spay-neuter-clinic-cats?month=2021-09
Nope but the money is used toward the animals.
Patricia is right (thank you! : ) Please leave us a message at 630-323-5630 and someone will get back to you.
Thank you for asking Ashley! Yes, when they are noted as bonded on our website, they do need to be adopted out together. Our team assesses each pet when they arrive to us and in these bonded cases, they have determined it would be traumatic to the animals to separate them. One of our adoption counselors can talk you through it further if you'd like to leave us a message about which dogs you are referring to. Our number is 630-323-5630.
Hi there - no home visit is required for adoption, but we do ask that existing pets are brought in to our facility to meet potential adoptables in a controlled environment. Thank you for asking!

This inquiry doesnt go to Hinsdale Humane but to the public. You may want to reach out to them directly.
Do you have a list of dogs to adopt? Cam Milam
I need some help very desperately, my mom is in that hospital and will be for a while, she has two cats that need to be surrendered. the are 13 years old, one is dibetic and i have the insulin that will last for at least three months, they are bonded.. I would take them with me but i have three cats and three dogs of my own back home in Tn please help and thank you
Ashley, I don't understand the situation if you brought him in and what to adopt him? I will check into this for you but I need to know his breed and any other information you have on him.
Not sure, you should call and ask them
If you are going to take him to a shelter, then definitely take him to Hinsdale, it's by far the best. You could also try a pit bull rescue suck as Pity Please. When you use a rescue, the dogs stay with a foster family until a permanent home is found. Good luck!
Hi Rosario - Our adoption process information link is below and you can fill out an application anytime. We encourage you to visit our website to see all of the dogs currently available (www.hinsdalehumanesociety.org). More come up for adoption every week, so feel free to come in and talk to one of our adoption counselors who can help make a good match for you. Thank you for choosing adoption! https://www.hinsdalehumanesociety.org/adopt/adoption-process
Hi Patricia, Stormy was adopted during our clear the shelters event this past weekend. We do have a number of great animals who have just come in and will be available soon! Keep watching our website few available pets: https://www.hinsdalehumanesociety.org/adopt/
Hi Carmen, We will be part of the Clear the Shelters event on Aug 18 which does include waived adoption fees, but other than on that day our adoption fees will stay the same.
Hi Paul, We are sorry you are having this issue. Most reputable shelters and rescues have all adopters sign an agreement stating that if you cannot keep your pet, they will take it back. You should start by calling the organization you adopted from to discuss some options. If they aren't able to assist, please feel free to call our shelter during business hours for resources that may be helpful.
Very popular adoption center. You've got to be quick and persistent. If you miss the pretty you wanted , keep an open mind, there are lots of animals in need of a good home
Hi Carly, Thank you for thinking of HHS at this difficult time. We do accept non-clumping litter and non-fish varieties of cat food. If something is donated that we cannot use, we will do our best to get it to a food pantry so someone in need is able to use it.
We always try to keep a few spaces available. If we are full, we are generally able to make an appointment within 48 hours. Please call us and we will do our best to schedule a time for you to bring your pet in as soon as possible.
I agree!
