Today my family and I had a pretty scary experience with a kitten, that had been somehow placed/trapped into a small rodent trap then dropped into the church dumpster at the church parking lot. I was informed by a homeless man who had recently been searching for cans and attempted to rescue the kitten with no luck. I immediately called the Kern county animal control who was close to closing. They dispatched a hero (in my family's eye's) named Tara Gonzalez who was able to retrieve the kitten from the trap and not only feed it and make sure it was hydrated, but she called us back to update us on the situation with good news and the best part was that she mentioned the fact that they really have never let the animals ride anywhere but the back inside of the carriers but this guy wouldn't allow it and wound up riding passenger the whole way meowing in the background as we spoke. That is a review worth mentioning.

We found our forever dog here. Couldn't be happier with the service they provide. You don't have to jump through hoops here like other shelters do to adopt. The facility is very well organized and clean. There are people always cleaning and caring for the animals. I would definitely come back to adopt again when needed.

You could go to the websites of Kern County Animal Services and the SPCA and check out the animals they have in the adoptable dogs tab. All the Dogs they have should be listed there with pictures.
They xrayed my cat a few weeks ago when he was run over by a car and that was how we determined his pelvis was broken. Im mot sure if they offer xrays as a regular service but if you ask they might be able to help
No appointment you walk to the side door to look at dogs take picture of paper work of dog or dogs that would like to get info on and go to front office and give the numbers to associate. They do not take dogs out for you to play with but do a 30 day return if animals do not work out.
Cats are located in front office.

I believe you can but there is a surrender fee. You may have to call and see whats up with the covid deal.
If a dog is picked up by an animal control officer, or brought in by a county resident as a stray it will be held for 5 days then be available for adoption as long as it is healthy and friendly. But most animals can be fostered through the shelter as well.

When will you start vaccine and licensing
Esperanza Hamilton | Sep 7, 2020
Catalina Rose Marie Gragnani | Sep 7, 2020
It depends on when they open. If they full open providing all services with per cations, then you should be able to get a vaccine for your furry friend(s).
You will have to call them to find out. If he's not registered with the County, has rabies shot or up to date on the rest of his shots, all these things will cost, plus the daily cost of keeping him there.

Probably the best thing you could do is take him to a vet or to the shelter maybe and have him put to sleep so he will no longer be suffering. I know it's a very difficult thing to do but you need to think of what's best for him. Prayers 🙏
Yes, I believe you have to be eighteen. So if you are looking to adopt and you are younger than eighteen you need an adult to adopt it under their name.
Well, when we adopt Xam, it was only 40.00 dollars. He was a puppy so be prepared to be charged maybe a little bit more. Microship and neutering included on fee. I went there couple of weeks ago and they have gorgeous dogs! (All depends on your choice. From puppies to young adults)
Who do you call about a dog that is not being taken care of properly by the owners?
Dominic J | Sep 8, 2019

It depends on if your in the county of current or if you're in the city limits of Bakersfield. Current county animal control service is on Fruitvale and city of Bakersfield animal services is on Vermont.

Would they spade my dog while in heat? Does anyone know how much they charge.
Denis Zetino | Sep 8, 2019
Sandra Klingenberg | Sep 8, 2019
Kern County Animal services do not spay or neuter. However, if you meet income guidelines, you may be able to get a low cost $20 spay certificate to use at a local vet. I'm pretty sure a dog can be spayed if in heat.
What can I do about a neighbor who lets her dog roam the neighborhood everyday?

You can be nice and tell her to keep her dog in her yard so it won't get hit by a car or you can be not so nice and call the animal control when the dog is loose on the streets.

Well if you have no animals and this is the only going to be the only one then get it from the shelter..BUT . I got a dog from the shelter and he killed all my other dogs with the disease came from the shelter called kennel cough and distemper.. so I would look for a small puppy from Petco or PetSmart or some kind of breeder before I go to the shelter again
What do I need to adopt a dog? What’s the process? And how much?
karla vazquez | Sep 8, 2019
Gloria Longley | Sep 8, 2019
A loving home...as for the price I'm not sure. Give them a call and they will tell you what you need to know.
Go to the animal shelter they will. Make u sighn a form .. indicating why u want to return the animal back then u can go and adopt another furry friend. Good luck
They have whatever has been surrendered. So Id give them a call and see if they have any available. I knlw they had a few rabits not long ago. Not sure on rats though
All dogs and cats have their shots, spay/neuter and microchip included in the adoption fee. The fee varies. Occasionally some animals have been sponsor which means part or all of tjeir adoption fee has been paid by someone. Your best bet is to go to the shelter and see if there is a furbaby that you connect with.
is this shelter closing down? i've seen posts on social media that they will be putting down every pet on sept 30th.
Sanjana Checker | Sep 8, 2019
Elvia Ramirez-Gutierrez | Sep 8, 2019
No it is not closing all that is going on is that they are making an extra human effort to get these little four legged angels a home. It may sound very desprate but they really need our help to get these little ones a loving forever family . Please help, if it is within your means of becoming a mommy or daddy to these Angeles.
I read that this shelter will be shutting down permanently&isConsidered a DISGRACEFUL shelter. If there's any truth about this adoption prices are that dogs will be $15 and cats will be$5 f/w/s. AllWill be put👇 9/30/18. IsThisReal?
Rachael Temple | Sep 8, 2019
Lauren Bauer | Sep 8, 2019

Are they doing free distemper shots today and if so do the digs have to be tagged and be caught up on shots?
Yes, they give shots for your pet and you can get a license for your pet and you can get a chip for your pet just in case he or she gets lost they will be able to contact you.

Not with me.take them to animal services off of fruitvale they should take them.
You need to contact the shelter for current pricing, deals, etc. Keep in mind some shelter pets have been sponsored, which means a donor has paid all or part of their adoption fees.
Critters Without Litters provides low cost spay & neuter. Depending on what area of town you live in, you may be eligible for a voucher to reduce the cost further. Give them a call.
"Critters without litters" is the program that offers discount vouchers for spaying and neuturing at a fractional cost. There is also a "catch and release" system for stray cats where non-owners can bring them in for a free service, then have them re-released fully vaccinated and fixed
My service dog is missing. Has tags from Pend Orelle Idaho, with the name tag Roscoe. Old phone number on it from Washington. Small black chiuahua. Please if anyone can help me.

Kim Lombard | Sep 8, 2018
Check the animal shelters in your area daily, or where you were when the dog went missing, when inquiring let them know, what your old and new phone numbers are.
I cannot answer that. I was interested in adopting a dog. The place is very clean and respectful of there animals. The people are very helpful and nice
They work with you on the amount you have to pay Stacey. And Cindy that is not true. They are working to become a no kill. The went from 100 something dogs a day to maybe 10 a day.
They do. They cannot accommodate the hundreds of animals that come in and when they get full, they euthanize. Its how it is in many high pet population counties.
