We planned our visit to be there just before dark to see the memorial and then stay for the lighting ceremony. It was an amazing experience. The ceremony does a nice job outlining the men memorialized on the mountain as well as gives nice detail and background to the undertaking of creating it. I would not change a thing about our visit, the weather was perfect, crowd size was great (busy but not packed) the drive up and down as well as parking was simple. Walking through the flags of all the states on the way to the amphitheater…just an amazing and moving experience. I recommend a visit to all.

Such a great view. So beautiful and amazing. I love the history you can read about and all the specific things they did to build it right. Lots of parking so you don't have to worry about getting a spot. The gift shop has so much stuff to buy and I wish I could buy all of it, there are so many amazing things to see there. Would definitely recommend going.

We absolutely loved our visit here! We even stopped in during the day and at night. The story of the monument is worth learning about. It’s amazing and majestic to see with your own eyes. The lighting ceremony was beautiful to attend. We loved them honoring veterans at flag lowering and singing the National Anthem. So cool. Go more than once during your visit. The best part is, your 10 dollar parking fee is good for a YEAR! Good to know since we went the first time in April then came back a month later on our way back through. As you leave take the scenic drive down HWY 16a to Custer St. Park. You won’t regret it.

Loved loved it! You gotta visit this monument at least once in your life. Parking is good for 1 year as well which is great. My little family and I took a trip to see this beauty during spring break. The weather was wonderful even in March. It was not crazy busy like it's prime season so I recommend it even though most things are not open until April and May. I still loved the fact that it was not overly crowded. We all loved the trail hike and seeing it up closer. A great nature trail walk. We also loved seeing all the flags of each state which was really cool.

Washington was considered the father of the new nation who guided the country's government and political structure as it's first president. Jefferson was the man who expanded the country's borders and enlarged the nation from coast to coast via the purchase (from France) of the Louisiana Territory and the exploration of said territory and the Pacific Northwest. Lincoln was the great emancipator of the nation who not only freed the slaves but preserved the union as one nation via the Civil War. T.R. guided the nation as an international power into a new (20th) century with its industrial, political, and military might--as he built the Panama Canal, launched and exhibited the U.S. Navy as a sign of military prowess, negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese war earning him the Nobel Peace Prize, corralled the American Industrial moguls into honoring the working class w/fair wages and conditions, and established the U.S. Parks system.
I think u are talking about the crazy horse monument it down the road
Mount Rushmore was started in 1927 and was finished in 1941
The National Park Service states that service animals for registered disabled people are permitted in all areas of the park, which includes the trails.
Unless i am remiss in my history (which is possible) they were: 1. Washington: federalist party 2. Jefferson: democratic-republican party 3. Teddy Roosevelt: republican 4. Lincolin: national-union party (Republican)
Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of the memorial started in 1927 and completed in 1941, taking 14 years to complete. The nearby Crazy Horse has taken much longer, but is, of course, much more ambitious.
