Had to see it for myself. They should really update the information in the visitor center. The info is from 2005 ,and much of it is not accurate now. Park staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The drive out to Salton Sea area is nice and you get to see a lot of the lemon groves and palm groves that represent the agriculture in the valley.

Definitely this place is not on the top of tourist attraction now but its sad its lost its importance over time and may be negligence from different factor. Its truely a sea and I would advise to visit the visitor center and watch the short video on the creation of the sea which will not only give you historial background ,you will also know how it was formed.

I'll definitely give this CA State park 5 stars! Best $7 I've spent in awhile. I recommend coming here early on a sunny day With camera and binoculars. Go for a beach stroll and visit museum/Gift shop. I Got to view an informative 10 min film on the place as well with the bonus of a ranger there to answer any questions. There's a surplus of parking/Restrooms. The friendliest state rangers and staff. I'm very I paid this place a visit, I definitely want to return as well as check out the Sonny Bono National Wildlife refuge by Bombay Beach....

This was a lovely campground. Definitely worth the $7 entry fee to enjoy the beautiful State park, the park staff were super friendly and helpful. Super peaceful and quiet for camping. It feels abandoned, but what a wonderful find. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway this is the place. The bathrooms are so clean and well maintained. The showers were clean and had hot water. Felt safe and secure. Truly worth the entry fee. I hear a lot of people complain about the fee, but I support our state parks and appreciate the hard work they put into it. It’s a beautiful place to enjoy the sea. Camp here, drive the entire sea loop. Enjoy the other sites along the way. Posting photos of the wonderful showered and restrooms. Also, there are lovely picnic areas if you just want to go for a picnic. Drive up! Enjoy!

Not sure I see people fishing but didn't ask what they were fishing for.
Yes, the water is tested by the California Regional Water Control Board. It is safe for recreation. Just stay away from algal blooms
I use it regularly. I wouldn't drink the water, but it's kayaking NOT snorkeling. Ignore the snowflakes, paddle hard.
If you could keep your dog out of the water and away from the layer of dead fish it would be okay. Not a place I would put on the pet friendly list.
Yes ... SeaFest this Saturday, October 21, 2017
I don't know. It was closed.
It depends on which entrance you come from but it’s more towards the south end. There are signs everywhere pointing the way though.
Yes it does.
When I was there in March it did not smell at all and was actually quite beautiful. I think the smell is not generated by the lake itself but by algae blooms that are present only sometimes.
I would not fish there....
Some areas of beach around Salton Sea have a lot of dead fish bones in fact they are primarily comprised of dead fish bones and I saw a woman get a fish bone jabbed into the bottom of her heel when walking on the beach in sandals there. It was really actually quite treacherous if you weren't wearing thick bottomed shoe and I would not take any pet on the beach there because they could get sharp fish bones embedded in their feet. It's also not a very healthy area given the lake was formed from agricultural runoff and is full of chemicals.
Yes, but no lights inside the showers. They're spacious and clean though.
