You can go online www.DMV.CA.GOV. Have your license plate information as well as the vin # plus a credit card to pay obviously for the renewal fees. FYI they do charge steep late payment fees.

If you are a aaa member just go to a aaa store and bring your license plate number and they will give your tags and you pay $20 and it takes 10 mins or go to dmv wait for a few hours and don't pay a fee and get your tags.

Hi Jerry, I was in a similar situation and paid early to renew my license last November. Calls to the DMV remained unanswered and visiting the Santa Clara DMV office was not a good use of my time. If you're seeking quick action and in case your license is about to expire even after having rendered payment, I strongly recommend contacting your state representative to intervene. Well, as per DMV website, no action is required till 31 May 2021 for license expiry.

Got the same issue after I applied in July 2020. You have to go directly to DMV after you make an appointment. After I went in person, I received my renewed license in a week.

All driving test, as of 1/7/2021, are canceled till 2/1/2021.

Many things have changed due to COVID-19, but I think your best bet is to go online to DMV website & ask. Though, I had a question about my car registration & was near Santa Clara Flora Vista DMV, so I walked to back of office where they were doing car inspections & asked the employee...worked for me. Very courteous & helpful.

The website said appointments are being made only for those that had an appointment before the closures. I went in the morning without an appointment and spent a total of two hours to get a new car registered and renewal tags for a different car. Two hours is not too bad.

Yes. I just got my new "Real ID" license. Uploaded all the documentation online, was at the DMV skipping the line, done within an hour (that's application, vision test, picture taking, and temp license), and got my license in the mail within a week.

Just go without an appointment. I did it on Tuesday and it took me 1:30 to do the process. Don't go afternoon because it is not garanteed that you will be attended. They are closing earlier and people in the line outside would have to return another day. The line is outside so consider protect from sun light.

Yes you can walkin as getting appointment for next 3 months is not possible. They don't give test after 4:30 pm, considering usual an hour wait go before 3:30 pm.
