Beautiful campground. Fortunate to have it so close. Reminds me of Northern California.

Pretty nice campground. Just keep in mind that this is a pretty popular site so try to get there early. Also bring plenty of TP and water as this site doesn't provide them. There is a couple spigots scattered throughout the site and there are outhouses that are not cleaned regularly but that is expected with the camping experience. The sites are beautiful no matter which you take. I made a mistake of taking 2 dollars in quarters and the payment did not fit in the slot so make sure you take cash in bills.

Last year in November, the weekend before this campground was closed for the winter, we had a 2 night stay here, at site #8. We absolutely fell in love with it. We have a seven-year-old who enjoyed it so much as well. It was really cold at night (high 30s) and cold during the day (50s), but as long as you are prepared, it's lovely. Because it is only an hour and a half away from us, we decided to go back the last week of June for 4 nights. We looked around again and settled on site #9 this time. While we did enjoy our stay, the abundance of mosquitoes bothered us despite repellent spray and citronella candles. Definitely a better camping experience in the fall/winter season. Also, as a general information: the sites 7, 8, 9 and 10 are great as they are big and somewhat secluded with enough trees to provide shade. The last 3 sites (36, 37, 38) are supposed to be great too as they are secluded and shady as well.

I took the fam up there a couple of years ago on the last weekend it was open, the second weekend of Nov I believe. It was cold and it was awesome! Not a lot of people but definitely worth to spend a couple of nights.
12 bucks a night and yes, in the fire pit
I just got back Thursday with my 14 ft Teardrop Trailer. No problems at all. Just go slow driving in as the road is very twisty!
Yes there is running water and parking spots at each campsite
You cannot reserve a spot, it is first come first serve only. It fills up very quickly, you will not be able to find a spot on a Friday. People start showing up Wednesday to take up spots for the weekend, unless you get there early Wednesday or Tuesday it is very unlikely you will be able to camp here. I have been 6 times and never got a spot, I generally will go to Horse Flat or Chilao instead as they rarely fill up. Neither have water spigots though as far as I remember. One time when I could not find a spot at Buckhorn, I just got a parking pass and left my car in the lot at the campground, then hiked down to the Pacific Crest trail for some backwoods camping. Absolutely legal if you are at least 100y from the trail, and make sure to get any necessary permits. There is also a stream near Buckthorn if you hike down the trail at the back of the camp for about 1.5 miles. There's even a little waterfall and some trout!
There is no fee to park and hike...and the hike is a beautyπ Camping fee is $12 per night, $6 for those with senior pass or disabled pass. CRYSTAL: You do NOT need an adventure pass to camp!!
Marty, I've heard longer than a week but you need to see on web page also make sure it's not a popular month
They will reopen buy end of March I believe.
Yes there were plenty on Sunday
I think you'll be able to find a spot easily. Camped there in November (almost completely empty) and mid week the Wednesday before July 4th and it was easy to find a spot.
School is back in session. Things are going to slow down up there until winter.
Dont even try, go to chilao instead.
No lake, just creek with a bit of water. Ive also seen rattle snakes. Be aware of your surroundings.
I would have to say earlier than 10 a.m. The campground. Quickly. Sometimes you just need to hang out and wait for somebody to leave watch for people that are packing up and getting ready to leave and talk to them and say hey are you leaving?
The campground is open as of May 12, 2018.
There are fee envelopes at the camp ground and I believe it is $12/night cash or check. Also the is a visitor center on the way to buckhorn.
this is a first come, first serve campsite without a camp host. if the campground is full, there are other options like chilao nearby
They are pit/vault toilets. Bring your own t.p. The Bobcat Fire is still avtive I doubt that campground is open. All roads in area closed.
The csmpground made it through the fire untouched. I do not have any updates on Cooper Canyon, although some photos show the entrance parking lot to cooper canyon burned. Let's hope the canyon made it through.
We were up last week. Campground was almost full by Thurs night. Totally full by Fri afternoon. Hope this helps.
You can sleep in your car.
2 years ago I camped there around November 10th. It was the last weekend before they closed for winter.
Yes. Its a car camp spot.have 12 dollars cash per night ready
We were there 4 days ago and wasn't too busy but my advice is to make a detailed list of what you need cause there's no near stores, and no phone reception,a good advice is to get wisles for everyone in case someone get lost or in danger, besides that is a great and beautiful place to rest !! enjoy!!
First come first serve. 12 per night but dont expect to get any sites weekends. Mid week is your best bet.
There is a spot of about half a mile of reception approximately 3-4 miles south (toward La Canada) from the campground.
You can hike to the waterfall they're probably still is some water there from all the snow and it melted time little spots here and there but I doubt there is enough for you to swim.
Yes, it's a first come first serve. There are many spots, but make sure you get there extra early to beat everyone that wants to go camping as well.
Sr2? I know the 2 to my Wilson is Closed
6 ppl per campsite. Do not think there is a limit on tents.
Website says its closed can anyone confirm it's open?
I went there last year on a Wednesday before the 4th of July weekend. While it is true it gets packed quick, both Wednesday and Thursday there were still spots available. I think you'll be fine if you get there early enough (the sweet spot of the weekend campers leaving). Good luck!
You don't need an adventure pass. Just the nightly fee
Not at all, there is one in Azusa on hwy 39.
There is a stream nearby, seasonal plus waterfall. Just follow the trail down about 30-45 mins, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Burkhart trail
Yes it has a fee. It closes once it snows significantly (which is probably now). Calling the forest service is the best way to answer the exact dates
Yes the campsites will be open and they will be closed on November 15th according to the park ranger I spoke with this weekend. And it is advisable to go early preferably Thursday early morning or evening to secure the spot for the weekend because it gets extremely busy and hard to find spots.
In the first snow fall, call forest services to make sure.
There's also another campground up there called horse Flats. But I've been looking at the stars that's a good one to go to.
We camped there last year on November 10th and 11th. it was the last weekend the campground was open. So I would say mid November.
Yes they do close but during the winter they will post a sign. If you want to find out you can visit the CHILAO visitor center and they'll give you the exact date and more info. It's open now but they fill up very quick so you have to get there early especially on weekends. It is $12 per night.
You just need to make the drive and hope for an open spot. Horse Flats is an alternative if you can't get in the Buckhorn
Your chances are very slim
Unfortunately the only way to find out is to drive up there and see. It's first come, first serve. Buckhorn campground is probably the most popular one in the Angeles National Forest, the odds are not in your favor. I showed up on a Friday morning a couple of weeks ago and had my pick of campsites. If it's full, try Horse Flats or Chilao.
I went about a month ago on a Wednesday, and had no problems at all finding a spot. Although I wouldn't wait till to late to go, cause your pretty far from civilization not to get a spot. Good luck with your trip.
12 bucks. Make sure to bring exact change.
12 bucks a night. cash only and make sure you have exact change.
There are quite a few spouts.there is one on campsite #28 all the way in the back, and #13 also, and the other are near#31 behind the trash cans and near the main entrance restrooms. I'm sure I left 1 or 2 out but you will see them.
Chilao its about 10 miles before.
Some Camp sites have a faucet , but not all of them, there are some in random places.
It's always busy, bit I believe you should be able to find a site.
All sites have large bear boxes. Ours was in the sun for the majority of the day so it got pretty hot inside.
Yep thats what we did this weekend its was 24 in total
Even when is not a holiday gets full, I gave up camping on a holiday in Buckhorn.
Fires are allowed in campfire rings only and wood burning
Yes the hiking trail is open
The campgrounds not open right now it won't be until summer
No it currently is not open for the season yet. You hand to contact the Chilao Visitor center to get more info.you can hike up there but you cannot camp. Also make sure you have the right gear, the weather changes drastically in the mountains.
You can camp there, however it's at 7000 feet, you wont find fish up there. Bears, yes.
I didn't have a signal with either Verizon or T-Mobile in most of the immediate area.
Nope. Too much snow. I was just there.
Well normally it's posted on the gate right outside of the campground or you can also find out by the chilao visitor center to make sure.
No camping in December. Season ended in early November. Snow will fall. Not sure about this year
Yes it is open in October... even if it's closed for the season you can still hike there.
