An underrated state park; beautiful pine forests, cool temperatures in April, and not horridly crowded. A good place to camp if you want to check out Salinas Pueblo Missions NM or anything else in Torrance County!

Can’t ask for a better, clean and quiet place in the mountain that close to ABQ with about 7/8 electric sites (#6 and 7 are the best). The drinking water spigots are also around the campsite with couple of easy to moderate hiking trails. T-Mobile cell service works great here and they even provide a dump station on your way out where majority of NM state parks don’t have, our first visit here but definitely will come back

We camped in space #4 for 5 days. This spot is dry but has an amazing view. We saw black squirrels with silver tails and wild turkeys from the campsite in addition to many bird species. I hiked the outer loop trail and saw two deer within a half mile of our campsite. The park was very clean and the camp host was very friendly and helpful.

We did not personally like this campground. It's small and the spaces are too close together making it feel like we were camping with strangers. We stayed in space #14 and the people in the space right next to us were almost in out laps. There was zero privacy between the two camps. Another problem was the picnic tables, grills, and fire rings were on the other side of the camper door, so you had to walk all the way around the camper to go inside to fetch something. It wasn't just our site, all the sites we saw had the picnic tables, and such on the wrong side of the campsite. The bugs were out of hand there too. The best thing about the campsite for us was it had electricity and we needed it because it got very hot. We weren't too far from the Quarai Mission Ruins, which were very neat to see. We will not return to this campground.

Do the campsite have water and power

The nicer areas have no electricity. I couldn't recommend the sites with electric. There are a few places to get water, but the only one with decent water pressure is the one closest to the visitor center.

Judging by the looks of this place, I'm assuming there are no water or electric hookups for the RV or TT campers out there? Thanks!

Chris Chambers | Jul 28, 2020

Hi Chris! No water hook ups but there is water available near the dump station and some sites have electric. The park is closed for the winter and will re-open the beginning of March (weather dependent). Check out Reserve America for site specific information.

I am wondering if the fourth of july campground is totally full on weekends in October? Concerned about getting a spot on the first come first serve basis. Ideas appreciated.

Hi Beth! If you'd like to camp at Manzano Mountains State Park, approximately 30 minutes from 4th of July campground, you can contact the park at (505) 469-7608. Visitation slows as we approach the cooler temps but we are still full at times over the weekends. If you'd like more information about 4th of July, you can try the Cibola National Forest at (505) 346-3900. Enjoy your visit!
