For disabled placard you don't need a appointment. When you arrive you will join the appointment line, let them know you are disabled and need a placard. They will give you a number or the paperwork that will need to be filled out by your doctor if your doctor hasn't already done that.

I had a very hard time making an appointment. I just showed up right when they opened but I did have to wait for 2 and a half hours before I talked to anyone. Get there at 6 am and bring a chair.

They currently don't have available appointments. I suggest you go there in person. I was 3rd in line last Thursday, and I got there at 5:40 am. Bring a beach chair if you arrive after 7am, the line is pretty long. Goodluck!

From what I can tell they arent taking new appointments only rescheduled appointments and existing ones.

If you had an appointment that you missed because it was scheduled during the shutdown or if your license expired during the shutdown are the only people the DMV in Thousand Oaks will see, all others get turned away at the door. You as well cannot make a new appointment, they are in full catch up mode.

It might be better to do this online. My wife did it that way and got a new one without having to make an appearance at all.

You don't have to get Real Id...especially since you don't fly, but you never know. If you don't have a valid Passport to get on board a domestic flight within U.S. starting this Oct.1st....then you should make your Drivers license, Or, an ID card Federally compliant (Real ID) by bringing to DMV... 1) Valid Passport, or Original or certified copy of birth document, and/or legal presence docs. AND... 2) Social security CARD, W-2, 1099, or Pay stub showing full SSN. AND... 3) 2 proofs of Residence with your name and address on it (examples: utility bills, car reg., insurance, rent/lease agreement, medical bill, bank statement, dmv renewal notices).

When was the date of your surgery? If you were still hospitalized yes. If you have no care taker and you have your surgery and after care the supervisor can give you a reduction. Make sure you take your paperwork.

Change name first with Social security...then at least 72 hrs.later can go to DMV. If making your drivers license Federal compliant (Real ID), then bring the following: Original Birth cert. or certified copy(no abstracts)... AND... Original marriage cert. or certified copy... AND... Social Security Card... AND... 2 proofs of Residence.. acceptable proofs of address would be... utility bills, bank stmt., insurance bill/stmt., medical bill, rental/lease agreement, or car registration.... If Not doing Real ID, and you just want to renew or update your non-compliant drivers license to show your new last name, then just bring the original marriage cert. after you have changed it with social security.

No, but it really helps. I couldn't figure out how to get an appointment on the DMV website, but some people did show up with. I think you have to call the 800 to get an appointment. I think I waited over an hour to get to the front of the entry line, then another hour or so until I got helped for renewing my driver's license. Make sure you have the right documents for REAL ID! It's better to bring more than needed instead of having to go back a second time

When I came in on Friday morning, it was not very busy. The staff is very nice and will help you with all the paperwork. Make sure to bring everything you need, it should all be listed in the notice you got in the mail. Non appointments on a bad day can be anywhere between 3 and 4 hours. They simply have too many people coming in due to Real Id asks + renewals!

you have to begin the application process all over again. You must submit all of the same information you did the first time, including your Social Security number, identification, name and birth date. Form is ONLY available from DMV. You can then take the written test a second time for your learner's permit, which will give you another three chances to pass the driving test. You will be authorized to take the driving test up to three times within the next 12 months. If you don't have your license by the end of the 12 months, or if you fail the test three times again, you'll have to repeat each of these steps.
