Gorgeous place to walk around and see giant tall red wood trees! A really kid/elder friendly park, very walkable. You can easily spend 3 hours here. Worth checking it out! Definitely reserve parking online at least the day before. Also, bring your annual national park pass if you have one, so you can get in for free.

Incredible, gorgeous place. Jurassic Park! Feel the power of Nature. Parking was easy. Two bathrooms, cafe, souvenir shop. If you have annual pass it will cover up to 4 persons. I wish people talked less loud. Highly recommended.

Great place to visit with Family. About 20 minutes from San Francisco once you cross the golden gate bridge. Reason I didn't give it 5 stars is there are no water falls. Only red woods and trails which is still very beautiful. There is a nice cafe that serves coffee, food and souvenirs. Price is very cheap per person and very accessible off the freeway. Highly recommend this place

We came here early in the morning and got to experience the park both when it was nice and sunny and a bit later as it got a little misty. Both ways were very worth seeing, as we got to see some really incredible, majestic sights. The park is very beautiful, and the trails are well maintained. We spent about an hour and a half walking around, just talking everything in. I particularly enjoyed walking through Cathedral Grove and seeing the rays of light from the sun shine through the branches of the redwood trees. It was a very serene experience. I would highly recommend visiting the park for anyone who’s in the area.

if you reach before 8 am it is free entry . for anytime after its charged
Parking has changed as of Jan 1st 2018. To ensure a parking spot you must set up a reservation. At your reserved time you only have a half hour to claim your spot and there are three lots for the main entrance can be a bit of a walk to the main entrance. But the other stops have more open parking for the beach and overlook locations
well it has trails from 30mins to couple of hours. The trail we followed was handicap friendly
While you can, not all areas can be accessed with the stroller. And there are areas where there are clear signs where you can't take strollers. On the wooden or non wooden pathways you should be able to navigate without too much difficulty. Take the stroller only if it's an absolute must.
I arrived about 39 minutes before my reservation time and no problems.
Yes
Most of the park says no picnic/no food.. There are benches near the entrance and gift center. You can eat there.
there is no network or wifi anywhere within or near the park - I would suggest depending on Uber or Lyft.
You are required to do so. You mist buy a parking pass for a certain 30 min window. You do not have to be gone withon 30 min, you just have to get there within that window.I think it costs either $8 or $15.
You can take the shuttle bus from the park. We did not know about this bus service untill we got there.. but when we asked the bus drivers they told us that we could pay them in the bus for a ride back to the ferry point.
Yes, there are a number of old large redwoods, but not the same size (not as tall) or quantity of these trees as coastal redwoods like at Redwood National Park in northern California. It's still a pretty nice place to visit and has a hilly hike if you want to tackle that. FYI, the roads up there are super curvy.
Yes we have to pay for both parking and entrance. We also need to make advance reservations for parking. If no parking ticket, we're not allowed into the park. Entrance tickets can be bought along with parking or can be bought at the entry point as well.
It is on the main land! It is beautiful and so peaceful!
One hour would not be enough time for the beauty of Muir woods.
FYI -- Muir Woods is nice, but I actually find the redwood groves in and around the town of Mill Valley to be nicer. So... If Muir Woods isn't open, just park your car in Mill Valley downtown and walk to Old Mill Park and Cascade Drive.
Just the main trail.
Right now, due to Covid, I do not believe there is any overnighting in any national or CA state parks
It's available, and the main path is wide and reasonably level. The offshoot trails involve stairs and dirt paths which might be an issue but there is still plenty to see and explore on the main trail.
You can check the schedule here: https://www.nps.gov/muwo/planyourvisit/calendar.htm TIP: Make sure you make reservations for parking.
You need to call their office and find out this information. You have to put in a request.
Main trail is paved, I believe it easily accessible by wheel chair. But call early and make reservations to ensure a spot close enough to main trail.
I liked the hillside trail. The whole place is beautiful...not a bad spot out there!
No 😭
This is what their website says Pets are not permitted in Muir Woods. The park is very small and can get very crowded. To protect the wildlife, other visitors, and your pet, we suggest that you visit nearby areas such as the Coastal Trail at Muir Beach, and some trails in the Marin Headlandswhere they are permitted. Service dogs, as recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act, are allowed:
Personally, I would go during winter. That's mostly to avoid crowds. It's busy during the summer. And often during the fall is when schools take field trips there. It's obviously colder, wetter, and more of a chance of rain during winter. But I am not a fan of crowds. I also love the wet foggy type of weather as well. That's my opinion. :)
30-50 minutes, depending on the time you get there. Also parking lots are almost always full, so you have to park really far away and walk
Yes. Holiday hours are 8am-5pm.
The admission fee is $15 for adults and free for kids. The parking fee is $9 for a standard car and you must make reservations in advance.
None. Wheelchairs are allowed for out brothers ans sisters that still want to enjoy nature.
You need reservations for parking, not for entrance. Military veterans do not pay entry fees.
No, they are not allowed. The paths are flat in the beginning, but they get hilly after a while.
Absolutely. Some off the trails that branch off of the main one would be tricky because of the number of stairs and incline, but otherwise it is very doable.
You can't drive through it like you can further North where the larger Sequoia trees are in another park.
Plan your trip through https://www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htm you will need a parking pass if you're driving so you don't scavenge around for a spot. Also entrance fee can be paid in advance on here.
Go to their website for more info https://www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htm
They don't have email posted but you can contact by email through the website. https://www.nps.gov/muwo/contacts.htm
You can do yourself also
Go to the website and pick a time to reserve and then you pay online and receive your reservation. https://gomuirwoods.com/
$15 per person OR best option is you can buy a 1 year membership for $45 which also allows you to bring three guests for free every time you come during that year.
Call the Muir Woods park information line.
About an hour by car
Yes, before the entry to the park and just to the west of the gift shop.
Probably not since it will be so cold there. I went early November and it wasn't that busy.
No because it's a part of the National Parks but you do need to reserve parking and pay because parking is limited. Might have you park offsite and take the bus in. Also you need to do it before going down because there is no cellular coverage near or at Muir woods. Otherwise, you'll need to drive back up the mountain and pull off the road to find coverage if there is even any reservations for parking left. https://gomuirwoods.com/
Hiking
You can see the trails on Google maps and they have many signs in the park that show the different trails. They suggest that you take pictures of the maps because they're isn't cell service in the park. You can also buy a paper map in the gift shop.
Yes, you can drive up till the start of the national monument but you do need to reserve parking spot in advance.
Yes
15 x adult, parking reservation must be made. Without it, neither can one enter. On the page once the park reservation was made you can pay the tickets. In the park there is no cell signal so it is important to carry the printed bar code or a pdf on the cell phone or tablet.
You have two choices when you book your entrance to Muir Wood. Either you book a shuttle so you will be parked far away. Nor you book entrance and you Will have automatically a parking with it and you will have a parking near to the entrance.
Yes you can bring your service dog.
Park fee is $15 for 16 yrs old and up, free for 15 yrs old and younger. If you have the national park pass, then it's free up to 3 adults. Free for military too. Also, don't forget to reserve your parking ahead of time and print your confirmation because there's no cell service down there.
u
Honestly you can easily do it in two hours and have a great time - up to you if you want to do additional trails
They are located in main entrance and visitors center.
Heard on the news that natl parks would be open however visitor centers will be closed and there may not be anyone attending restrooms'
We did drive all the way to the entrance and then drove on to the vista point. It is possible to drive through quite a bit but not necessarily through the forest
By car go online to get reserved parking, get res # up on phone before arriving. Lots of great groves all over coastal California not as crowded, free parking.
There are 4 trails . 1st and 2nd are easy. 3rd and 4th require more physical activity. Each about a mile. It is beautiful
You need to purchase parking in the parking lot and check with them parking permits are purchased online I did not see any RVs while I was there but I'm sure that they must have some RV slots available so purchase the ticket to park beforehand purchasing the entrance to the woods is not a problem but parking is tight
Muir Woods is open all year round. The park closes an hour before sunset. I think the schedule in the fall is 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m
En saturdy to
Hi! No
Yes you can take a shuttle bus
Drones are not allowed in National Parks. Plus there are too many trees. It will be difficult for drones to navigate.
You can walk down the mountain or take a taxi/ride share. Just make sure to schedule your return ride as there is no cell service down there
Even in Alaska, there are ticks. If you plan to walk through the forrest, especially off of the wide paths, you should protect from ticks. I encounter mosquitoes from time to time at Muir Woods, so I protect from them with the same deet that protects from ticks anyway.
March 11, 2018 - September 15, 2018 Muir Woods is open 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Septmeber 16, 2018 - October 13, 2018 Muir Woods is open 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. October 14, 2018 - November 3, 2018 Muir Woods is open 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Muir Woods is very ADA accessible and friendly. No pets allowed in the park but, Muir Beach is one mile away and dogs can have fun running in the surf & sand. Temperatures are almost always in the 50 to 70 degree range allowing pets to be cozy in the car while walking inside Muir Woods!
When I was there they wouldn't let anyone in 30 minutes before Sunset to hike in the forest, because it gets extremely dark in there.
Yes you can.
At the park entrance
I went recently and it wasn't very busy. I agree with the others and reckon it should be fine.
Jarrett, you can see the bridge from Crissy Field or the Legion of Honor id youre looking for public parks with nice views
You can not do it exactly there but as Shravan propose there are many places around ( need to hike from there)
I don't know if they're open on monday 25 'defender'. Is that a national holiday or something?
